gp'ers in san diego?

Guess my request for advice was a little to late,, Went out to car this morning and it wouldn't start. Now I am in more urgent need of a mechanic. Dont think its the battery, but it wouldnt turn over at all. Lights (interior and dash all come one). But maybe its not getting enough juice.
Great way to start the holiday season.

Im going to be demodding my gtp for the majority of the day to get ready for the smog ref next week. I need to head up to El cajon Blvd off the 805 at some point to grab a bunch of my tools my buddy has been borrowing. If you happen to log on today and read this and are available today go ahead and text me at 6192405211. I'm sure my multimeter and 10 minutes will tell us everything we need to know.

Y are u demodding? Im sure u could pass the smog test with ya mods unless theres something really interupting your emissions(like not having a CAT or something visually).

Appreciate that,, I told Dee I get off at about 3:30 today and will be home roughly 15 -20 after that so anytime would be great. Im hoping nothing major as the holidays have not left me with a whole lot to be doing auto repairs but I do need to know the problem. Im off Flether by the Costco,, actually right behind the Carl's JR. Will text you and Dee when I get off.

ill check it out for u once this rain stops...
Big thanks for helping me out today Dee, really needed that. Going for battery probably this weekend, will roll my friends lil civic til then and keep checking to see if it was just the battery or something else pulling power. That thing is definitely too small on power. Full blown stereo setup would have killed that long ago.

Yeah, that battery aint gone cut it. After checking the battery & Alternator for volts and doing the voltage drop test on both sides, I would deffinately change the battery. Something may be pulling juice like a fuse or it probabaly was just that corrosion on the terminals causing a lil resistance, on the other hand the NEG side was pretty much resistance free.

Upgrading your power and ground wires would deffinately help with this situation and most of your power and ground points overall through out your car. Heres mine, re-did it a few weeks ago...

Gonna have to do that,, did confirm. After I drove it around yesterday, went out to the car last night around 11, and was dead again.

Yeah, I would change the battery regardless just for your own state of mind. Now, im more worried about something draining that battery bc when I did the Voltage drop test on the positive side I was getting 2.6v, thats dumb high and the only thing you had on was the stereo. Dont forget to clean the corosion off the terminals, and if this was me I would do this first with the old battery and see how it acts with clean terminals bc you dont really want to put in a new battery and allow that to drain too.

MIght be a silly question but this isnt supposed to make noise is it.. I mean even when the unit is off there is an odd intermittent noise it makes. Nothing when the car is off but anytime the car is one, from time to time it makes a strange sound. Whether the AC is on or the heat or its off, doesnt seem to matter. Anyone else seem this before?

Might be a bad ground or your RCA wires....mines do the same thing sometimes, I need to fix it too but its not that bad for the most part

question,,,, $300 sound about right for a tune up?

The automotive industry has done a good job of misleading consumers on what exactly defines a tune up, its commonly accepted that a tune up is plugs, wires, oil, maybe coolant flush, maybe fuel/intake cleaning of some kind. But really a tune up is defined as anything the car needs, anything that will effect performance. Its just like getting a physical every couple years, give an overall diagnosis, then determine necessary action, so realistically a tune up could be an entire overhaul, or nothing more than a diagnostic and require nothing "but shops don't make money that way". So anyway, be aware of what is included in this "tune up" request part information as you may find that you could purchase high quality parts for the same price he charged you for whatever 99cent parts he had in stock.

Well now that we've assembled a gp following here in San diego "all 3 or 4 of us" lol. I got alot of random "mostly motor" parts laying around that I'm willing to part with cheap as long as they go to someone local. Also anything u need that's been hard to find or just too expensive that I don't have I can atleast get a price for you. Likely much cheaper than your cheapest alternative. Anyone need headers? Or a thrasher cold air box?

LET ME GET THAT CAI... What kind of headers? My Togs are getting on my nerves, LOL. Needs to be re-dipped in ceramic. Let me know

The cai box wont work if your overflow tank is in front of the computer, needs to be over by the pulleys, headers are speed daddy, ran them for 6 months at the most. Took care of them and still have all parts, 3 inch downpipe. I just had to revert to "stock" to pass smog, it took months. The headers were fun while I had them on, and they really opened up the top end of the powerband. But I like my new setup too much to go back. And for the thrasher box I just highly prefer an open cone bolted right on the TB opposed to the 45° bend needed for the box.

Whats your new exhaust setup? And I have a 00' Regal so my overflow is already on the passenger side. Did you run the CAI too?

Stock exhaust and factory air box from a 3100 grand am, I call it the straw lol. But my car smogged really well and is making a ton of power, it feels much better calibrated. No need to mess with success till something breaks and I have to.
