goofy gas gauge

Anybody out there ever change the fuel level sensor on a '04 Grand Prix?

I bought the repair kit and I'm going to take a crack at it to correct the erratic behavior of the gas gauge on our Grand Prix.

I watched a You Tube video of someone doing this task on a 2001 Bonneville. It didn't seem so bad, but maybe there's a trick or two that I may have not heard.

Yeah it helps that there is an access panel to the fuel pump in the trunk so the fueld tank doesn't have to come out. It looks like the sensor just clips on to the fuel pump module.

Did you have any issues?

I just swapped the arm piece out. The fingers were wore off, so I just took that part off the pump and the part I bought off ebay and just did a straight swap.

The connectors were different on my fuel pump, so it wasnt plug and play.

yep pretty easy did mine last week. check the line going from pump to top of unit make sure its not brittle or cracked! mine was and i hate doing something more than once! also lube your o-ring seal it goes in way easier!

Went well since there is an access panel in the trunk. Take your time and allow the fuel to run back in the tank before lifting the pump out.

Once the fuel pump is out of the tank, the fuel sensor can easily be swapped out. There's a couple of plug-ins, route your wiring the same as the original and clip the sensor to the pump. A new clip for the sender is provided.

The o-ring was too large for my fuel pump and I couldn't lock the ring back. I cleaned and re-used the original ring and it fell right back together.

This was $19 well spent to correct an erratic fuel gauge.

Fuel line is under pressure. Relieve at injector rail or be ready to catch some gas in towel. Also have tank 2/3 rds empty.
