Flakes? Just seems like some good info to me with the graphs and all. Makes me almost regret spending so much money on my polished gen 5. I do love the wine over my old gen 3 though.
 
So is this information with the usual 75mm throttlebody upgrade?

Also if you notice the Gen 3 flow charts stop at 12k RPM, which is at the low end of when people would swap out for a GEN V. if you follow the charts you will see that the 8hp minimum gain on a 3.4/3.6 setup would become even more pronounced at 12.5-13k the GEN V looks to be around 42-44 hp on the chart, while the GEN III would be in the 55-57 hp range,

Also you forget the age of the units themselves, as nobody rebuilds these things usually so you figure the vehicles with GEN III's are old enough to legally drive themselves. I'm sure alot of rotor coating on the early blowers, along with age related play would lower the VE alot from those perfectly new specs.

Just saying I'm swapping mine due to age related failure and for $300 for a GEN V and N* that will net me at LEAST 8 proven HP and probably much more I think it is worth it.

Figured it would be just "Gen V is worthless get a TVS if you want to see an improvement".
 


in my mind it was always something you did down the line unless you came across a great deal. there's no point in swapping until you're AT LEAST in the sub 3.0 pulleys area.
 
There is nothing incorrect with his post. It has good information. Just, lots of misinformation on this site, from what I understand.
 
My cam swap was done at the same time as my gen V swap, so I'm not sure of the actual power gains from the blower alone. I run a 3.4 now, which is supposedly like a 3.2-ish on a gen 3. Either way, I still love my gen 5!
 
Misinformation or not, look at it this way. You are setup with a better foundation for modding now. With an intercooler you could push even more without worry, you have the better charger, so that's one less mod you would need to get down the road.

We usually push for safer modding. You can run a 3.5" pulley without headers, it is capable with a tune.

Is it recommeneded? no
Is it safe long term? no

Just because you can do it doesn't mean that's the way we like to do it. We like to make things solid and reliable.

I'm doing heads and a full size IC soon enough. Then hopefully my good ole l67 can handle a 3.0 pullied gen V.

Plenty of guys on that site did Gen V/N* only swaps and dyno'd before and after. They came up with reasonable gains (more than the paper 8hp) for the money at the time. Which was in the range of $500 a few years ago.

If you want to believe his post, I'd suggest going and pulling that information together yourself to confirm it. The guy lacks a lot of credibilbilty on most sites based on falsfied information like time slips etc. There is a reasonable amount of information available from places that have SC dyno's. Most would agree that actual results are a better measure than desktop calculting. Heck a few years back I read something similar when a guy was trying to prove out that the Gen 3 M62 was comparable to the Gen 3 M90. He used much of the same graphs etc.

Many times things can look or seem as one would like if you put the right spin on it. Flake went to school for marketing or communication, surely he learned how to put the message he wanted out there. However, why would you try to prove that a Gen V is no better than a Gen 3? Makes little sense other than his typical "screw with people and provide misinformation", which he said to me in person was his goal. (Couple years back) Up to you if you want to believe a guy who is banned off most forums, has been proven wrong by 3800 vendors, aims to cause drama on 3800 and non 3800 forums and has been proven to lie often. All he's ever done is made the 3800 community look bad on other forums and proved that a newer $1800 TVS blower could be more efficient than a $300 Gen V.

I'd be searching on my own for the proof of his claims and dyno results from actual charger only swaps.

First off... I believe the mumbo jumbo in that post is all smoke n mirrors to begin with.

Although I won't make fancy flow charts or formulas to back my knowledge. It's a cumulative thing from talking, reading and more. If the OP of that post wants to legitimize his thesis, then he should hook up the S/C to flow tests and the vehicles to dyno's to show ACTUAL numbers.


That said, it's well known the GenV upgrade is not that much really and the cost/gain crossover makes it a mod that you'd most likely do as you're running out of mods that squeeze the very last smidgin of HP out of the engine or the smallest pulley size possible. I'd rather just put an Intercooler in than swap the S/C as the cost/gain is much higher. Just my opinion. :)

Same cycle every... 6 months? give or take. It just comes back around as always.

What is this 6th gen he is referring to btw? Eaton only shows a 5th Gen roots, and a TVS roots... he did the TVS and it was "glorious" and way over budgeted... so what is a 6th Gen?
