• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Gonna try out the 1/4 tonight. *UPDATE*

First time I'll have visited the track in the 2 months I've had the car. I'm no stranger to the dragstrip. Been down it many times in my S10 and Camaro but I have a few quick questions. Car is a 2000 2 door GTP with 107k miles on it. Intake only. I'm expecting a 14.8-15.2 The cheap Tiger Paw tires actually hook up really well on the street. It won't even brake completely loose on a really slick road. It'll just squeal the hell out of them. The elevation at the track is only about 600 feet. Temperature is gonna be right at 60 degrees

1st question. Should I leave it in drive and let it go through the lights in 3rd or bump it back into 2nd so I go through the lights without it having to shift that extra time? IDK if this is common with these cars but if you leave mine in drive it shifts into 2nd at 6000 RPM but hits 3rd at 5500. That's why I'm asking if I should leave it in 2nd and stretch it out close to 6000.

2nd question. Should I brake stall it when I launch it or does this help any with these cars? And if so how hard should I stall it?

You may be thinking just run the car and find out! Well that would normally be the plan but I'll probably only get a chance to run it twice so I'd like to know what seems to work the best without having to make a dozen passes.

Re: Gonna try out the 1/4 tonight.

Practise on the street a little bit. Obviously not everycar is going to launch the same. Just get a feel for it. I can launch my car at about 2200 rpm with no wheel slip on street tires but i have a few mods and am tuned. So you might be able to launch at higher rpms. Taking out any excess weight will help. Possibly back seats, spare tires, subs if you have them. Go to track with only 1/4 tank.

Re: Gonna try out the 1/4 tonight.

Try it both ways...

I actually launched in 1 with TCS off, and once it had traction I gave it hell around 30~ and then popped the shifter into 2 and held it to 6~...then into 3...never wanted it to hit 4th at WOT.

toss a few bucks of race gas in there too to kill any KR it might have.

Re: Gonna try out the 1/4 tonight.

If I try to shift it manually from 1st to 2nd it shifts earlier than if I leave it in drive. Shifts at 5500. The race gas part is tempting. They sell it at a station about a mile from my house. My car only peaked at 2 degrees of knock when I tested it so I may not bother with that.

Re: Gonna try out the 1/4 tonight.

I never had that issue, it only shifts early if you hold it too long.

2*...is 2*.

That's probably 10~ WHP that's being robbed, or a few degrees of timing. Worth it on the backhalf. Remove the drivers side headlight...flip the motor mounts...remove all the crap in the car/trunk...spare tire...jack...etc...engine cover and all that jazz too.

Re: Gonna try out the 1/4 tonight.

Already got solid mounts and flipped polyurethane dog bone bushings. Already cleaned the car out too.

Re: Gonna try out the 1/4 tonight.

Just leave it in 3rd, you'll just hit the limiter at 5900ish if you leave it in 2nd and you'll slow down.

Power brake it to 2000ish or so and lay into it without alot of wheel spin. Thats about all there is to it.

Re: Gonna try out the 1/4 tonight.

I ended up going to another dragstrip in my area to watch the Street Outlaw guys from TV race. I was still going to go but everyone that was planning to go with me except for 1 guy backed out. I'll go here in the next week or 2. Supposed to rain this Friday so maybe next week.

Re: Gonna try out the 1/4 tonight.

Just ran a 15.0 my 1st pass. Not bad considering I weigh 295 lbs and left my jack and spare in the back. I also spun pretty damn bad. The left lane at my local track is terrible. Only managed a 2.286 60 foot. Gonna take my spare out and let my 145 lb brother give it a try.

Re: Gonna try out the 1/4 tonight.

Only had time for 1 more pass before the drag strip closed so I took the spare tire and jack out and let my super light brother take it down. Here are the results. Pretty damn pleased with it.

60 foot: 2.151
1/8 mile: 9.467 @ 74.21 MPH
1/4 mile: 14.68 @94.90 MPH

Left it in 2nd gear this run instead of letting it short shift into 3rd at 5500. Never hit the rev limiter.

Nah I ran the 16.0 lol. J/K. I'd like to try again before modding it. Maybe take the driver side headlight out, run some race fuel and slap on some drag radials but the tracks closed for the winter now.
