GMPP Handling Upgrade Kit question...

Springs settle and sway bars like to rust out. They also like to get tweaked in wrecks.

Going with new is your best bet. You can usually find some of the GMPP stuff on Ebay with free shipping.
 


Hmmm. Is it me, or is gmpartsdirect.com the only place that carries this full kit now? I went in to the GM dealer and asked for this by the number pk12456148. Got excited when I got a price quote of only $48! Got let down when I found out that GM has apparently reassigned the number 12456148 to a single (as in just one) strut tower brace. :(
Anyone else have another source for the entire kit? Don't really want to order from GMPD, but if it's the only place that has it now...
 
I decided to jump in and ordered it through gmpartsdirect. Still showing there as a full kit for $139, and the shipping wasn't too bad at $25. Hopefully they will remember to ship it to me in a box. :P And I also hope this really is the kit as the Web site shows: it is a "special order," and non-returnable. Then again, if it's really what I'm wanting, I won't have to return it...
 
Just wanted to mention I got the kit from GM Parts Direct in a few days ago. ("Imported from Canada" no less!) It did indeed have the front and rear sway bars, along with a single strut tower brace. No shipping box, just wrapped with layers of heavy plastic. (Boo!) The $25 shipping charge doesn't seem all that much considering how heavy the sway bars are though. I thought they'd be thin and lightweight, but they are just the opposite. The rear is solid; and even if the front is hollow, it's pretty beefy. Lots heavier than I expected.
If you're thinking of ordering this kit yourself, make sure you use the correct part number. Remember it starts with "pk", followed by 12456148. Using just the number alone might just get you one strut bar if you go through another source.
I'm going to go ahead and get another strut tower brace for the rear. I've also got a few more specific questions about tying it all together with bushings and struts, but I'll start separate threads for those. Thanks for the help. I appreciate it!

Truth is the comp g already has upgraded front and rear sway bars that are very similar to the the GMPP setup so really you wouldn't gain anything and then you would have to change out the control arms to the 97-03 style to use the front sway...


So long story short just keep what you have and upgrade the trailing arms and add the front and rear stb then look at lowering it for better handling.
 
How much of a difference would upgraded trailing arms make in normal everyday driving? Don't want to cheap out on anything, just wondering if they'd make that much of a change from stock before I spend the cash. (Which doesn't grow on trees! :P)
 
Just wanted to update this old thread while I was thinking about it. The GMPP sway bars make a real difference in the way my stock GP handles. Noticed right away how the car glided through the first fast curve, and have been happy with it ever since. Even with my soft struts still on, the car rounds the curves much flatter, much more solidly, more in control. The feeling of front end "plow" is nearly gone now. Just wanted to say to anyone who might be interested I think the handling upgrade is worth every penny of the price. :)
 
So the kit came from canada? Cause the shipping costs they talk about scared me off cause I live in canada and I thought it came from the states
 


In would just get a dorman front sway and a GMPP rear sway. The dorman bar is better anyway.

Its not like the weight is going to make a difference, I would feel better with the solid bar personally that and I heard the dorman bar is constructed much better. Either one is better over stock.
