GMC Envoy XUV

Does anybody here have any experience with them? Thinking about getting one for the wife. Currently looking at a 2005, 2WD, 4.2L, with 71,000 on the odometer....asking price $12,900.

Dealership is about a 45 minute drive away from me, so I'm trying to see if it's worth the drive to take a closer look at it.

THe XUV has the retractable roof joke IMO id stay away from them I own a 2004 GMC Envoy SLT and ive never had any kind of problems with it biggest thing ive ever done is a water pump and fan clutch about a month ago at 122k. Its my wifes DD just tires filters fluid and a battery is pretty much it. Def THE best vehicle Ive ever had. Weve had ours since 2006 and it had like 57k when we bought it.

The 4.2 from what I've heard tends to burn valves. I'd do a bit more research on that. I'm not sure they do, but a mechanic buddy has that info from a machine shop etc. We've done two of the motor swaps so far, and at over 40+ hours of labor plus an expensive engine..it's a serious repair.

My mom has had one since 10000 miles and its up to 126000 and we have never had anything really go wrong it other then tires and a few light bulbs. Its got the v8 in it which i think is a 5.7 not sure about that one.

Yeah anything will when you dont do proper maint and oil changes on time everytime LOL Ive never had anything major on my 4.2 and I already got one sitting from the same guy I buy GP parts from. But yeah them engines are not cheap tho they are very reliable. I think the V8 versions were the 5.3 327 unless your talking TB SS them have the 6.0

ive got a 2002 trailblazer ls which is same basic platform other then the fuel pump itself rusting out and the rear end blowing rest has been general maintnance given the 183000 miles so id say they are decent i dont care for mines 4x4 but not all are the same and id only be worried bout the xuv roof

The XUV is the one with the wierd silver rear end isn't it? Butt ugly imo. I love the normal envoys, and trailblazers as well.

yeah I wouldn't go for an xuv. My mom bought a new one in 2002 and never had 1 problem until it was totalled in 2006, and she put 90k miles on it.

Thanks to everybody for their input. Don't think we're going to move forward with this particular vehicle, but will be keeping the XUV on the short list of possibilities. Might wait to see if I can find one with the 5.3L, even if I have to ask the local dealership to track one down for me.
