GM recall 15757

Does anyone know why the recall instructs the dealer to remove and discard the "beauty" cover (lol) and the oil filler extension tube on the SC engine? Do these two things add to the danger of the leak? I mean really, if they are more dangerous I'm all for fixing the problem but geez, that "beauty" cover is a nice looking piece on the engine and a small badge of honor for those of us who have the SC. It also would have been nice for the dealer to tell you they are gonna throw it away before hand.

I think the reason they are doing that is so that the oil filler extension is ruled out as a cause of the oil leak. The beauty cover is designed to fit with that oil filler extension, so as far as the dealer is concerned without one, you don't need the other.

I've always taken the beauty cover off as soon as I get a car. Its really just another heat trap for the intake manifold.

On mine the small tab on the back broke, so I just pulled it off and tossed it in a closet.

Then the recall came out and now idk what to do with it. Lol

I had the recall work done on both of my GPs. The oiler filler caps are a ***** to take off now. I am disappointed in this "fix".

Because they don't know how to fix the problem, if there even is one, so they are covering all their bases and removing anything that could possibly be near the problem.

Did the dealer also remove the spark plug wire(s) hold down retainers? I was reading the recall about removing those or changing how the front spark plug wires are retained. The dealer keeps calling me to bring mine in for the recall and I have been holding out.

That is the previous recall, #09047. 15757 removes the engine cover, oil cap extension and the install a new valve cover.

Can't wait to see what the next recall is for. LOL
