Hey Everyone,

I've been debating on putting some serious cash into my 2000 GTP for some time now and I think I am about ready to. I work at a car auction so I have been looking for a 2003 and in that nice candy blue colour (since I have a 2006 CBR 1000RR that is Candy Blue and Yellow). However, I'll probably just end up painting it myself.

Anyway, I came across the forum (thanks google) and I have a few question for you all before I start plunkin' down some cash.

I have been debating over a few different hoods. I personally like this one here. However, I think I want to add the ram air package to it and can't seem to find any info as to if that is possible. Are the ram air packages pretty flexible when it comes to installing them? I've never seen them so I don't know exactly how it all comes together. I also like the F1 and the SD hoods, but want to be able to hook up the ram air.

As far as mufflers....I have seen a lot of info about the Borla Pro XS but I am looking to get the lowest sound and I've heard the flowmaster 44's have a pretty deep sound and I also found those on the wickey nicky site. Any thoughts on the two? Heard the difference? Just looking to get the lowest sound. Maybe there is something else out there lower? A friend of mine had a GTP with a real deep sound but I forgot what he had on his.... How does the SLP exhaust system compare? The SLP package has three different kinds of tips. Trapezoidal, 3.5 Slash and Dual/Dual. Any difference in sound between them? My friend had a HUGE 4" opening out his muffler and it was REAL low! I don't think it was the Corsa Pro Series, because he said he got the muffler for cheap. Hmm.... Decisions decisions....

What are some of the other main things you all have done when getting started?

Thanks!

Nathan

change the mufflers for a pure sound change.

if you change anything else, it will sound poppy and crappy.

Welcome to the community.

I don't have anything done to the outside of my car for apperance. So if you were refering to that i probably cant help you there. As far as the ram air goes if you're looking to do it for performance don't ...If i remember correctly I remember someone saying that the ram air is pretty expensive. Most people go with a cold air intake or a fenderwell intake.

The ones I would recomend are the Wizaired or mine wich is a fenderwell intake.

As far as hoods go I really like just a regular cowl hood. But thats just me.

Take care

SyntheticShield - thanks for the help. I thought I had it in the right spot...whoops!

Bio248 - Yeah, I just can't decide which one. I found a used magnaflow system locally, but my concern is the pitch.

I want something really deep sounding. Anyone have any thoughts?

Flowmaster Super 44
Borla Pro XS
Ram Air Technology cat back exhaust system with Magnaflow mufflers

TDCRacing - Thanks for the insight. I knew that the ram air would be expensive, but I thought it would be worth it. I was also thinking about a turbo so I know I'd be spending just about the same amount on parts as I did on the car itself! :th_lipssealed2:

so, anyone else have any insight?

the borla tend to be the most recommended and best sounding of the group you listed. the flowmasters will drone and sound poopy when you let off the gas. coming from me, i just switched back to stock from flowmasters. dont get them.

as far as catback, just get your own made. zzp has a good setup for ordering piping if youd like that route. otherwise bending your own 2.5" setup will be your cheapest/best bet.

regardless of which muffler you get, they all sound the same WOT.

Now I know that's not true. Mine, my friend's, and a guy in town all with 3800s and different mufflers and they sound very different at WOT. Mine's Magnaflow, my friend has Corsa, and the other guy has Flowmasters.

Even though it's said to be useless until 120+, but you still feel you want ram air, SLP has ot. Me personally would go with a fwi and cowl hood.

I think he was trying to get at how all of them will still sound like crap at wot.
