General GTO info

Hello all, coming this spring I will hopefully be purchasing a GTO. I have wanted one ever since they released the new body and I can finally get one. What I am looking for is some good need to know info about these cars and things to look for when looking at potential buys.

I am also interested in the pros and cons of both the 5.7 and 6.0 platforms. Any info will be appreciated, thanks much.

Either engine is good, the 6.0 has far more power/torque from the get go.

T56's are great but are very prone to internal failures with grinding gears and needing rebuilds. If it was abused you can only hope it was already rebuilt or it's tuff as nails.

The 4L60/65/70e are always a weak transmission, they work good but they will die with abuse.

The 5.7 has an easier computer to tune compared to the 6.0 that uses a much newer style computer but overall it's not that complicated.

Inspect the chassis for loose parts, tie rods and ball joints for sure.

I drove a 6.0 once. Never again. Miserably underpowered (my LLT CTS has more grunt), and kept making a beeping noise with no associated dash lights and no clue from the dealer as to the cause. I've seen one as recently as today, and the sight warmed my heart, until I remembered that test drive.

Good luck if you get one. You'll need it.
