Gen2 LS4 swap info

I've been looking through forum, I'm sure it's been done. I'm looking at buying a 2002 intrigue Final 500 car with blown motor.

Thinking about LS4 swap. Who's done this and what issues could I be looking at. Links to previous projects?
 


Most of these don't go for anywhere this kind of money, because most are just daily driven. I found one140k miles, normal wear and tear for salt belt. Which means it's not worth much, but would be nice to mod for something different.
 
I'd venture to say a blown 3800 would be much more along the lines as something that would have fit that car.

After owning an LS4, I'd tell you to run away from it lol

Especially if your starting a build with one alreadyear out the car, a simple cam and intake will net you at least 340whp. Take that into consideration.

Oil leaking valve cover, a junk transmission, stupid voltage problems that fry batteries, burns oil, lifter tick, etc etc..

LOL @ 340 WHP from a "Simple Cam and intake"... You know they only make about 230-240 wheel horse stock, right?

The only way a simple cam and intake alone would get you there is if you actually had 289 WHP, but ran on a dynojet with at 15% HP inflation.

Why u might have 3800 experience out the ass. Your ls4 knowledge or experience in ls4s seems nill
Leaking valve covers? No....that's a known 3800 faulthe not ls4

The junk trans? Yea welcome to w body land. We all have the same issue with that.

Voltage problems? Never had issues with beyond operator error and lack of attention to detail when modifying the car.

Burns oil yep easily remedied by turning off dod in the tune and utilized a catch can. op could do a non dod cam upgrade. With non dod lifters to eliminate the physical dod parts as I mentioned before.

Lifter tick--rare if ever and not just a problem associated to the ls4 no more than a 3800.

Tuned these cars have been in the high 260s whp intake and exhaust 290 intake swap and headers 310whp cam to utilize it all 340. That's not inflated.
 
Weird, I pulled that list of LS4 problems straight from someone on an LS4 forum. It has nothing to do with my 3800 knowledge.

So now you're talking about:
Cold air intake
Intake Manifold
Headers
Catback
mild Cam
and a Dyno specific Tune
All without a built trans
...Probably still done on a dynojet to inflate the numbers 12-15%...

That's a lot of work and money spent to lose to a supercharged 3800.
 
Maybe be a somewhat friendly dyno to see those numbers, not saying it's not possible but on regular pump gas it seems a tad high. I woulda said 325ish on pump gas.

Knowing trucks have more drivetrain loss and bigger things to turn, seems most guys can hit 320-330whp on the GEN 4 engines. They also have 325hp at the crank to start with though. Gen 3 engines with 285-295 CHP, hit 300whp with cam/headers/tune.
 


The lack of CAN bus data communication... as the ls4/05+ cars utilize a much faster Network scheme to communicate with the body control module and the instrument panel computer.
The Oldsmobile would have the older serial data system and you would have a difficult time getting the cars instrument panel cluster to work with the newer CAN bus data
 
Still a non issue as you you could easily use a express van 0cm and harness. Which plays well with older style bcms. Transmission control should be able to be segment swapped and use the 4t65 programming
