Gen V Swap

So, I bought a Gen V to swap into my 98 GTP a few months ago. I've finally saved up some money to buy all the parts necessary to put it in, but wanted to double check I didn't miss anything. How did I do with my research?

alternator relocation kit

I plan on intercooling which is why I want to relocate the alternator. I don't know how exactly I will do that, though. Any advice/recommendations to add?
 


It looks like you've got it all. It wouldn't hurt to change the coupler before you install the supercharger for peace of mind.

I have an alternator relocation kit I'll sell. Brand new from ZZP. PM Me if interested.

Seller claimed he changed the coupler right before he sold it to me. I'll definitely private message you about the kit though.
 
You don't need the LIM o-rings for a Gen 3 SC. The yellow rings are not needed. The gasket you selected has o-rings built into it. That is the gasket for the early LIM or if you open up a Gen 3 LIM. The 07+ LIM did not have recessed areas for the o-rings and require the metal gasket.

Don't see any coolant elbows in your stuff.

I'm swapping in a Gen 5. That's the list I could come up with after research. I got a new LIM with the Gen 5, don't know the different between the two though. Also, I'm doing coolant elbows when I flush my coolant before I put on the Gen 5. Could you correct anything for me? Thanks man!
 


The gasket you bought will be for a LIM with recessed coolant port areas like the below picture.

The yellow o-rings you simply don't need. They are for the L67 (Gen 3) supercharger gasket because on that gasket..the rings aren't part of the gasket. The gasket you bought..it's tough to see..but the rings are part of it and you don't need the additional rings.

The 07+ gasket is flat metal and has inlaid rubber. The LIM on that newer style is flat in the coolant port area, similar to this L36 manifold. The one hole here that you can see in the lower left is the flush coolant port I am speaking about.

And here is a Gen V gasket (your version) laid over a Gen 3 gasket. You can see the coolant o-rings are part of the Gen V gasket. You can also see how much the LIM is different on the two chargers

Being that you are going to a Gen V. I would suggest plugging the coolant ports and opening up the turn around area as noted in this thread

Looking through your pictures, it looks like the asshole I bought the Gen V from gave me a LIM for a Gen III with it and not a Gen V. Looks like I'm going to have to go buy another one before I even consider putting it on. Thanks for the help though, will come in handy when I get the LIM.
 
Hold up.. first off.. you can modify a Gen 3 for a Gen V and not need to spend anything.

Toss up a picture and let's see what you have. Then go from there.
 


It's opened up to much by the boost bypass hole. The PCV passage that runs around the boost bypass hole (gen 5) won't seal. This manifold will work with a Intercooler but may not seal right without it.

So it will work with one, but will it work without one too?
 
Take a look at gasket picture. You can see a bent hotdog shape by the boost bypass hole that has to seal. Put gasket on LIM and see if enough material is left.

Thanks a lot for the help man. Looks like I'm going to have to scrape up some money before putting the charger on. Does my list in the main post still look right for the Gen V swap though?
 
List looks good besides 2 new coolant elbows and you might want to get valve cover gaskets while you're in there. Also it's best to block off the two coolant passages on the lower intake manifold. It's as simple as tapping and plugging the holes. Also have you figured out what you're going to do with the PCV and EVAP system? Most people just block off the EVAP on the Gen v charger and re-use the stock EVAP. The PCV system is a little more complicated from what I remember. I believe you need to drill/tap the throttle body and run a vacuum line from this to the PCV nipple on the back of the gen v charger. You can't just tap the throttle body anywhere, i believe it has to be anywhere after the MAF sensor & before throttle plate. Also you will need that alternator relocation bracket or you'll need a 99+ alternator,bracket, and bolts. Make sure to get RTV so you can install the block off plate on the gen V as well. You'll need the gen v supercharger bolts. Two 5qts of oil, new oil filter, coolant.
 
You're list is still including the extra coolant o-rings. And remember the part where I mentioned the metal Gen V gasket for the flat LIM, you have two choices. You can plug the coolant ports and open the coolant turn around like in the "how to mod a lim" thread that is linked then remove the o-ring area of your gasket so it sits flat because your LIM doesn't have the recessed areas. Or you can get the metal gasket instead. Either way no coolant reaches your throttle body. Therefore my suggestions is to plug and open the other area.

EVAP: If you are using an L67 throttle body, you can use the Gen V's original Evap soleniod on it instead of plugging the hole. Simply hook up your line from the fuel tank to it and the electrical connector. Presto you are all set, plug the hole on the side of the TB where it originally went on your engine

PCV: You drill and tap into the bottom of the stock TB to retain proper PCV functionallity. This is if you aren't intercooled.
