Gen III or Gen V?

So is it worth the money to do a Gen V swap or just port the m90? Also, I may port it myself and then polish the case. While I'm at it I want to do the lim too. Eventually I want to put on a intercooler so I plan on getting the lim ready so I don't have to remove it again. I read a lot of people saying not to do the silencer fill or is it ok if done right? Thanks.

You dont need to fill the silencer ports if the porting is done right, you will hear gains. For the porting, what kind of tools you have? It takes a fair amount to get it done. I would personally stick with a ported m90 if done correctly is right up there with a gen 5 IMO.

I don't have much but could get my hands on some stuff. All depends on if I have money to send it out. I'm no noob when it comes to working on cars though. I just think it's a lot of work and money to get the swap for not much of a gain.

A stock Gen V will make about 20hp more than even the best ported Gen lll on a modded set up. Many things make the Gen V better, larger and straighter intake side. The rotor coating is a big factor creating a much better seal and increasing efficiency. The outlet is farther forward allowing the air to exit the blower much easier. The blower case is machined to fit all the way around the rotors where the Gen lll leaves a gap of free space at the bottom center. You will GAIN boost over the Gen lll even if you run the same size pulley.

Ok...I'd like see how some of these things stack up.

The best ported Gen III vs. a stock Gen V...20 horsepower? Get real. I doubt that much. And last I checked if you have a 3.8" pulley it is going to make the same amount of boost on a Gen III vs. a Gen V...only thing that will make the difference is flow mods.

i see what your saying but if a gen V is moving more air with the same amount of rotor rotation in the case...due to the design of the case itself wouldnt it therefore make more boost? i know you can port a gen III real good but only to a certain point correct? lemme know if im wrong thats just how i see it....:th_thumbsup-wink:

and i think you are correct about 20+ hp from this i dont think the new gtp's make 20 more horses off that blower its the blower plus a high compression motor....

Properly ported entails shaving the rotor wall down like so:

and blending a nice crest to get there like so:

here is the thing: a genV is and always will be more efficient than a genIII. a fully ported genIII will be cheaper than a genV and will get you pretty far. a blower swap is usually the last thing people end up doing to their car. on a full out cam build with an intercooler when someone swaps they will usually pick up between 15-20 whp because of the blower. on a more mildly modded car this will not be the case and youll be lucky to see 10 whp out of it.

if youre not looking to go mega fast its not really worth the money.
