Gear shift lever hard to operate

1994 Grand Prix SE 3.1

Over the last few weeks my automatic transmission gear sfift lever has become very hard to operate.

It has become very stiff as I try to move it from Park to Drive or Reverse and back to Park.

Is there something wrong with the linkage perhaps?
 


************* UPDATE ***********

Got underneath the car this morning. Took a screw driver and began prying at the connection where the cable connects to the lever on top of the tranny. Wasn't having much luck getting the connection to come lose. Pryed on it pretty good several times.

Got back in the car to move the shift lever around to get at better angle on the connection underneath. All of a sudden the gear shift moves freely and easily.

Apparently by prying on that connection I must have unjammed something in the cable or something because now it works perfectly.

Weird!

Yes, hmmmmmm....It seems weird but it is still working great as of today.

Perhaps something got caught up in the lever on top of the tranny where the cable attaches or something and when I pried on the connection it came loose. I can't explain it.
