The previous owner of my current GXP apparently had excruciating taste in football teams. The entire top end of the engine, including the coils, is painted blue and orange.

My body shop won't touch it and says it's mechanical work. I don't see how. Will I harm anything if I just take a couple rattle cans to it?

take said parts off, repaint. coils are easy to get off.

Yes, but the top of the engine is not....

Count yourself lucky it's not black and yellow! You're not gonna hurt anything painting it. I'd at least degrease it well before.
