• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Gas pump etiquette.

If it's busy and you've finished pumping but need to pay (or just want to buy a drink), move your car away from the pump and park it! Other people shouldn't have to wait for you to move after you're finished.

... most pumps here are prepay, so you need to park at the pump first and then go and pay (if by cash) and if you do pay after filling up, if you try and move your car before paying? LOOK OUT THEY'LL CALL THE COPS--think you are driving off!!

that being said, i use debit/cc so no worries there! --but yeah, if you're just going to get someting to drink or whatever, then yeah move it!

I usually pre-pay by credit card, but when I do have to go in I move my car. It ticks me off when people leave there car sitting, when there is no pumps open and they do the shopping like get the coffee, breakfast sandwich, etc.. etc..

some areas if you leave the pump before paying it is a drive off (GA was like that for instance) with prepay it hasn't been as big an issue though

My girl got in trouble for driving up after filling the car. They took her tag and wrote it as a drive off, even though she was still there. They said she could not pay it because they had already cleared the machine. Took 3 ****ing weeks to clear it up with the company

For this reason, I do not move my car until I have done everything and am ready to leave for good. I use a CC as well on every tank, but I still wont move because they seem a bit paranoid around here sometimes and I just dont want to take the chance (even though Ive paid for the gas), and it only gets worse as prices go up.

In fact, down in Tulsa, some of the stores down there require what they call a 'Pump Start' card. Its like a CC but you go in the store, they copy your drivers license details and issue you a card tied to that information. Otherwise you have to pre-pay. And no, using a CC doesnt change that.

So as much as it may annoy other people as it does me, I understand it and I wont move my car until Im done. Penalties here for a drive off is an automatic 1yr suspension and then whatever jail time they give you.

What ticks me off are people that put the nozzle back on the pump with the lever still clicked/locked. My wife got drenched in gasoline one time... She inserted credit card, hit the button. Went to put cc back in purse... Then as soon as she lifted the nozzle off the pump, gas started spraying everywhere. Ever since then, we both check to make sure the lever is "unclicked" before we lift the nozzle.

we have had some stupid people down here put M&M's into the hose that goes into the tank. so I make a habit of pointing it to the ground before i fill up....

I cant say I have ever ran across that before. Nor the M&M's either. Thats a lot of trouble to go through.

I will have to find that email I got, but for a while there was someone around my (st. louis) area putting used syringes under the handles so you would get pricked. I cannot remember for sure but I think they said they were inficted w/ HIV. Never did find out who was doing it either.

and I hope they suffer a long and painful death, that is just unthinkable to do to people

I always do that, when I talk to my family in Alabama. I say down here in Illinois, and they interrupt me and say "you mean up there?"

heh. i suppose it's a natural kinda thing. where i am, it's typicaly "out in the burbs" vs "in the city"

I used to live in Columbus Oh.....used to saying down here to people back in IL. gues it stuck....

My bad Toasty!!!!

and a waste of good M&M's

but yea I leave my car in place until I've finished with everything. Although if I'm getting other things I do it while the car is filling up.
