Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

fwi vs. ram air

now i know that a fwi would provide more power because of the colder air, but exactly how much of a difference is there? 7" cone, 4" pvc, no other mods and n/a if any of that matters. plus would there be any difference in the sound it provides? im thinking no, but why not double check...

FWI=colder air combusts the best and gives you more power but consumes more fuel and is more restrictive due to longer pipe

short ram=better flow and better gas mileage but hot air doesnt give you power like cold air will

ram air=GTX hood or drivers side headlight taken out (do 1 of the above for better performance)

i have a N/A GT and i felt a little difference and i got a 4'' tube and 7'' filter, if i baby it i get better mileage too

My open cone intake makes the blower scream like a beeetch! I just put the filter on the end of the tb. Get's better gas mileage too. Honestly though, when do you need a FWI other than when your racing?, and how often do you do that legally a year anyways. Me maybe 2-4 times a year.

SRI/Open Cone FTW.....only thing you suffer from is heatsoak but an lq4 maf will fix that.

3 things...

1) ALL open cone setups at one point or another are going to suffer from heat soak

2) HOW is the LQ4 going to fix that?

3) WHY would he run an LQ4 MAF on an N/A car with no other mods?

what would be better (for my setup..... )

a 3" FWI (no 4" bends to be found anywhere to make a 4" FWI)

or a 4" short ram?

It's my DD and I care about fuel economy more than power as I drive 100 miles every day. (most of it is highway driving at 75 MPH....love Colorado speed limits :) )

when building it is there a preferred spot? Here are two examples, one is down near the fenderwell opening and the second is almost right on the TB.

Thanks blue... so just throw that thing on the TB and go eh?... no piping or anything?.. despite not having an intercooler or meth?

I'm so glad that I order food at fast food restaurants... otherwise I wouldn't be able to understand what your response was. :)

Depends...you can always try it and if it doesn't work for you...just run a FWI again

ugh... I need a scanner to really be able to tell... oh well, good thing I keep fuel economy reports when I fill up.

Numero dos senor
...realized the pics and the words didn't match up. Therefore stating "number two" could reference either one.

I was assuming you were referring to the second pic, not second description (which has been edited and changed now in order to provide a conclusive response).

I'd prefer not to mess with the intake too many more times.

THANKS! (again)

i got a WIZAIR Cold air intake and a SD Ram Air Hood.

when i race i take the Top off the Cold Air intake because the wind tunnel goes right to the Air Filter

Might construct a Lid with a hole here in the near future.

try both out, see which one you like the best. its not hard swap them around.

ive tried NUMERIOUS different set ups, there was pros and cons with all of them. what someone may like about a set up, you may not care for it.

i would say try both out yourself and see what you like.

i would also unhook the battery for 20 mins to reset your fuel trims, a large change in intake set up can throw off readings, so i would reset fuel trims to get the most out of it.

i would say rock each set up for about a week to get a good comparision.

You dont need a 4" elbow, you can use a 3" to 4" reducer on the tb, and then use a solid 45* - 4" elbow, I just built mine on the weekend, but I am waiting for a cone filter with a 4" opening, the one I had was only 3" so I ordered a 4" off ebay
