• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Full report on my recently acquired 2000 GTP gold ed.

After doing some readings on the forum and learning some things to look for and common problems, I did a quick inspection.

146,000 miles.

Cooling elbows are plastic, and the LIM appears to be black rubber. Oil looks good, though. No signs of milkiness. Has normal looking orange coolant.

There is no oil on the exhaust manifold.

There are these white date notes under the hood also. I'm not sure what they mean exactly, but I assume this was when some things were serviced. Beyond that, there is a sticker indicating a transmission flush at 63k. And a sticker indicating it is equipped with a K&N filter, although I did not remove it to verify.

That right rear tower looks like uh-oh. Everything else is about par. Plastic GM elbows can last long. If thats what those are. She probably needs struts and the usuals. Not too shabby!

this strut tower is pooched some.

and those poor head lights, get a pack of wet sand paper, hit them with like 400 to 800 to a 1000, then buff them with rubbing compound.

left side was redone, right side old crap.

Looks like a nice car. I did see some cracks on those rubber vacuum hoses, under the supercharger snout for example. I fdont know what that writing is under the hood though. It also looks like it was recently pressure washed in the engine bay to make it look good, but it also removed evidence of leakage history. It would be a good idea to change the LIM gaksets just as a precaution. Bummer on the strut towers, although defiantly worth repairing.

I'd just buy new head lights for 70 bucks instead of trying to make the old crappy ones look better.

The lower intake gasket picture you posted is suppose to be black rubber there. You want to look at where the intake manifild meets the cylinder head, the gasket there will be black or silver.

that picture of the elbow if you are using that pic as a reference for what kind of LIM gaskets then your looking in the wrong place. You have to look between the head and the intake manifold. I just replaced mine and that seal under the coolant elbow in the new kit was also black and orange.

The writing near the radiator cap I think is "antifreeze" protection level. -34 degrees on 12 - 04 etc????

Grind that rust on the strut tower down and get some undercoating on there. Maybe weld a little tubing between it and the rear deck to stop it from flexing and making the crack bigger.

The head lights are probably too far gone unless you want to bake them. Mine were about that bad and it turned out a lot of the plastic oxidation was on the inside of the light...

yup that side its rotted through and lifting.

no idea what that will cost to fix at a shop. a few members have repaired them diy style. you need a welder, and of course know how to weld.

theres a few youtube vids too ive seen.

Yes, the headlights are worse on the inside than the outside.

I am not a welder, nor do I have any buddies that weld. I would have to take it to somebody.

I would start looking for someone who will do it in their free time. While its not super bad yet a shop will probably be looking for a few hundred while I got a pro welder to do it for a case of beer with some scrap steel he had lying around.

Put up an add on Craigslist looking for someone to do some minor welding.

Sent from A Galaxy Far Far Away........

I'd probably leave the video out. You don't want to seem like someone who's going to be micromanaging the job. Most guys probably wouldn't get that involved in the job anyways.
