Full glasspack/steelpack exhaust?

I'm considering going with a glass/steel-packed muffler and res setup. I got an opportunity to test a bullet steelpack muffler from a friend's mustang for a few days and liked the sound of it (bolted on to the DP, then dumped under the back seat) but want to keep my hearing. So, what if I used something like that as a res and then again as mufflers?

Any experience with similar setups or suggestions?
 


As soon as I get the opportunity to get everything together for the setup, I'll do it. Any brand suggestions? I'm thinking of the summit glasspacks. They're cheap.
 
either that or go on ebay and get the ones on there i forgot what they were but they were like 20 plus shipping (could be crappy glass packs) but you never know
 


dont take off your mufflers. just get a glasspack to go in place of the resonator.

find the biggest one you can (length).
 
You don't think a full glasspack setup will sound good, Bio? There's a slight problem with my stock exhaust setup, though. I had this bright idea a few years ago that drilling a few holes through the casing of the stock mufflers would give me a little bit more volume and wouldn't cost me the money of new mufflers (very stupid idea, BTW). The downside to that is, now, with my cam, it doesn't just sound louder. When I accelerate, it is obvious that I've drilled those holes and sounds like I have an crappy exhaust leak (idle sounds nice, though). I don't want to repair them or replace them with other stock mufflers because I do want more volume out of my exhaust system.

How big of a difference is there, actually, with just replacing the stock res with a glasspack?
 
no. straight exhaust on these cars are garbage. you need some kind of muffler for sound definition.

a glasspack will flow better than the stock resonator and it will also give a little more growl to it and still keep the rasp at bay.
 


I have glasspacks in place of the mufflers...YouTube - 99 GTP with dual Thrush glasspacks. If you dont have the res,your gonna have more rasp, and its gonna be hella loud depending on what size g-packs you get. Mine above has some rasp and I still have the res. in place. Im curious how its gonna sound after Sat. when I put my 2.5 dp on and do a U-bend delete. Ill try and get a sound clip or 2.
 
That sounds pretty good. I think that'll be the route I go. I'm looking at the Summit brand stuff just because it's a bit cheaper and have heard good things about some of Summit's other mufflers. I'm thinking 3" for the res and a pair of 2.5" for the mufflers. Each of those is a size larger than the piping, but I've heard that larger gives a deeper tone. Should I stick with the factory sizes or will the larger ones work like I'm wanting?

The ones I ran were 2.5 inch, then I heated the end of the glasspack and put my stock tips back on it. Personally id do the same size through-out just to keep the exhaust flow smooth. Its like a lot of people ive seen that run a 3in downpipe into a stock exhaust. Your gonna have some backpressure due to the larger amount of air going from the downpipe into the smaller size pipe.
