Fuel Tank Sensor going bad

GAFF

PittState Automotive Tech
So for about a week now my car's fuel gauge has been going up and down.
I know how much gas I have though because I just reset the DIC every time I fill up.

I want it fixed so I was going to order Fuel Tank Meter Sender/Connector from gm parts direct.

My question is if I pull the pump out is there anything I could try cleaning then reinstalling to see if it works better to save some money?

You could try looking at it and cleaning. It's simple to take out, just take the bucket out and it's right there, fairly simple to detach and unplug it or replace.

Well ordered it..going to try and clean it first then see if that helps and if it works ill return the part.

This code should of popped up or just stay in your computer until you scan it.. p0463

I just bought a Snapon scanner the other day and just hooked it up to my car for sh*tsandgiggles, and come to find that damn code.

tell me how everything goes if you could.

Fosho... bucket??? isnt there a hole in the floor board?

I have a aeroforce.. no codes and also my tuner never showed anything.. I will check in a couple hours for that code when i go back out for more tuning.

Hole in the trunk is what I have heard.

Ill be sure to update this subject. Cant put new sensor in until this weekend when i go home.

hey man, so in the mean time of my last post, ive found out an assload of information about this thing. lol

heres a nice video for ya

The hole in the floor is going to make this a breeze. and also youll need this
GM#15824379 FUEL SENDER ~GM Vehicles-Suv's-Trailblazer - eBay (item 120684733768 end time Feb-20-11 12:59:50 PST)
The ebay one is 25+ dollars cheaper then the dealer price. watch the videos youll understand :)

25bucks compared to a new sending unit of 500 bucks..

Thanks for the videos... That should help.

But I paid 119 bucks for the part off of gm parts direct.

yikes.. lol Hopefully i can get this part by this weekend and install it. ill let you know how this one goes. Maybe youcan save some money

I replaced mine yesterday, it was pretty easy to do. although i had a really hard time getting the metal ring and the sending unit out, it was like my access hole in the trunk wasnt big enough.

To bad you couldnt have saved a couple bucks on those parts...

I thought i would post pictures of an old fuel level sensor and a new fuel level sensor so you can see what happens to them.

NEW FUEL LEVEL SENSOR YOU CAN SEE HOW MUCH LONGER THE CONTACTS ARE.

probably didnt seal your tank up right happened to me i just took out the pump put it back in better and all was good

seal?? like the metal ring? man that thing was a PITA to get back in there! i had a hell of a time getting the whole sending unit out as well.

i just did the same process today. Spoke with a friend of mine, who stated that "GM fuel pumps" is notorious for this issue. Said to take a pencil eraser, and rub the contact points. Going to see if this works or not. and then i'll order the new piece.
