This cars fuel rail. The engine came out of a 2004 Chevy Impala SS Indy 500 Edition. My 1999 GTP engines fuel rail doesn't have that little circle thing left of the Boost Bypass Actuator. What is that and what does it do?
its a pulsation damper and yes it affects tuning since it reduces the fuel pressure pulsation
GM saw fit to increase the surface area of the dampeners greatly from that design to the L32/26 design but that's due to the worsening of the pulsation effect with the fpr in the tank on a deadhead/returnless system.
the bigger you injectors the more your fp fluctuates as the pop open and closed.
you can see the effects first hand with a mech fp gauge on your damperless rails youll see the needle bounce at idle, its travel will be roughly halved when you do the same test with the dampened rails
I guess I just don't understand then. It helps with fuel pressure consistency? That's good, right? But the 1999 GTP had 36# injectors and the 04+ had 33# injectors, iirc. So should I keep these fuel rails and put the 36# injectors in these rails? And I'll have to tune my car to this new damper, right?
no you will not need to tune specifically for it but the damper will keep fuel pressure fluctuations from affecting fueling which is good
the effect is amplified the bigger the injectors so for big builds dampers can be a great addition
use your injectors with those rails with the damper and you're set
and that is technically a series 3 l67 only the Grand Prix got the L 32 that had the stainless fuel logs with the largest fuel rail pulsation dampers and gen5
I get the dampening. But non of us who have purchase modified fuel rail or even billet fuel rails have this. So it's good to have but I've never heard of a push to add this before. Am I missing something.
these are the pulsation dampers inside the l32 rails. you grind off the weld opposite the brazed end and knock out the plug that remains... they are sized for dash 6 rails id...but I install them in dash 8 dash 10 Fatman rails by modifying them.
