Fuel pump replacement wtf?

Chainging out my daughter 00 gt fuel pump. I found a replacement from craiglist from a guy moding his 02.
I pull the dead one to realize it was a replacement with a different wiring harness. I was able to swap out the other connecter and solder the internal wires so they work (taped and shrinkwrapped).
Now the original fuel pump does sit down in the fkn hole enough to get the snap ring in place unless I remove the gasket.

Question: Do you think an rtv seal would be good enough? It would still be tight.

No, I would use the snap ring. It's there for a reason. Besides, do you really want to risk a fuel leak in your daughters car?

From what I see on Rock Auto, the part # for a 00 GT Delco Pump and an 02 GT Delco Pump are different. Maybe they aren't quite the same which is why it won't fit all the way? I know most parts from 98-03 will fit but not sure if the pumps are the same.

Take a tube of vasoline and apply it pretty liberally to the rubber o-ring. Set the pump assembly in place and ensure it's sitting properly. Then push down on it. It will go most of the way easily. The last bit.. I find that using someing like a large socket or chunk of wood and a rubber mallet to tap it down and ease the o-ring into place works well.

Teh purpose of the socket/chunk of wood is to distribute the force of the tapping in order not to break the top of the pump assembly. I move them around a bit to coax the assembly into place.

Here's one I did a while back.

The connectors and part #'s are different because its a platic tank in the 02 and a steel tank in the 00. Not only that but the 00 should have venturi port or the small black tube going from the bottom of the canister to the top of the fuel pump on the 00. You do not have that port on the 02 fuel pump. You may be able to get it working but there may be more differences than that to overcome

Is the whole pump bad or just a floaty gas gauge? If its the gauge, just swap the white plastic floaty-ma-bob thingy.

Well, I guess it doesn't matter right now anyways. I plugged it in to check it before I went through the hassle. The pump doesn't work.

I guess I'll be getting my money back and buying one on e-bay.

I checked the relay. When the ignition is on, it read about 5 volts on one of the pins.
It there anything else I need to check before assuming it's bad?

I wanted to test the pump before I went to the hassle of putting it in, since it's from an 02. I plugged both the connectors in but it didn't work when I turned the key and moved the plunger thingy.

Should it have turned on?
