Fuel pump problems

Last fall I changed my fuel filter, drove to the gas station and filled up, then drove to my mom's. Car sat for maybe a half hour and when I went to start it it ran ruff for a few seconds till I shut it off, noticed the pump wasn't priming when I turned the key. I tried bending the pin on the relay and switching the relay, neither helped. Took the cover off in the truck and tapped the pump a few time and the car started right up.

Drove it for 200+ miles after that then let it sit for a month while I drove my truck. Few weeks ago I drove it for a good 50 miles then one morning I drove to my friends house to give his gf a ride to work, let it sit for 10mins, went out and the pump wouldn't prime again. Tapped on it a few times and it started right up again.

One thing, last year I ran over a rock at a campground and put a dent in my gas tank, ever since then my gas gauge has been off(usually showed over full when I fill it up, now shows 2 notches below full) Not sure if the dent caused the gauge problem as I don't remember if it started doing it right after the dent or not.

Any idea if the pump is going bad? If so is the $160 assembly any good at the W Body Store?

Thanks,
Joe

pump is probably bad. I bought the drop in assembly from the wbodystore. Dropped it in and wha-la priming fuel pump again. I also did a zzp f/p re-wire.

Is the pump at W Body Store a brand name pump?

I can get the W Body Store pump for $175 shipped with a 1 year warranty.
An Airitex pump at Advance Auto for $210 with a 1 year warranty.
Or a no name pump on eBay for $80 shipped with a lifetime warranty. :th_wtf:

Kind of leaning towards the Airitex as it is actually a brand name pump.

I would not recommend the Airtex pump, overpriced and I had nothing but problems, even after a rewire.

Go Walbro. You can find them for about $100 -125 and drop it into your canister.

Might just have to get the Walbro and a ZZP rewire kit.

Any idea how good the Spectra pump is that is on Rockauto? It's $200 but I don't know about a Spectra fuel pump :th_scratchhead:
