fuel pump problems

I have a 04 grand prix gtp comp g and it was low on gas b/c i was putting it up for the winnter and i thought it ran out of gas but now i have a 1/4 tank and the fuel pump is not kicking on. The battery also was not charged from sitting. Can anyone help me out fuel pumps are expensive and i do not want to buy one unless thats what it is.

Check the fuses and relays under the hood. Pop off the access port in the trunk (under the carpet toward the front of the car) and see if you can hear it priming. Should sound like a whine.

turn key to run, then see if you have fuel pressure at the rail via the shrader valve.

I have checked the fuses already and also have the have the access cover off to and am getting power the plug on the pump and its not making any noise and also there is no pressure on the fuel rail. Ik how to work on older cars its just all this new junk that u have to be a nerd to figure out lol Is there something that would make the pump its self not work at all ?

Come on now, electric fuel pumps have been on cars since the 80's. What voltage did you see at the plug? The fuel level sensor is in there too.

you need a new pump. you figured it out already.

you can buy just the pump for 50 or less off ebay, or up to 300 for a whole canister and pump at a local parts store. local stores dont sell just the pump any more it seems.

I do have to say thats funny but i was reading a bunch of **** looking for like a safety shut of switch and people say to do all sorts of things but is there a difference in psi if i was just to buy the pump off ebay and not the whole unit. i do not have a voltage gauge just a test light.

if you got power to the pump, and cant hear or feel it run, and have no pressure at the rail,,,,,,its painfully clear the pump took a crap.

a pump for your year car is the pump for your car. the pressure will be fine once you got a new one installed.

dont forget the fuel filter when you change the fuel pump.

If you need to move it for some reason, climb under the car and find the center of the tank as you may be able to coax it back to life one more time by gently smacking the tank with a rubber mallet. Have someone turn the key to ON and smack the tank and see if it runs. I've done this before in order to move a car with a bad pump, but don't count on it to work again if you shut it off.
