Fuel Pump Fuse Blown - should I be worried?

I was driving my 2000 GTP today for about 3 minutes down a street. I came to a stop light but had a green light. I slowed down, turned right, and gave it about 75% throttle... Sputter sputter... and dead... The engine killed and I managed to get the car to coast from the momentum into a parking lot.

Long story short, I blew a fuel pump fuse. I never had this problem before, but I am wondering if I should be concerned? To me a fuse is there for protection against something else causing a problem (too much electricity). Is something shorting out? Am I going to have habitual problems now? Those kinds of questions run through my head. Is a blown fuel pump fuse a somewhat common occurrence, or am I in for some electrical headaches now? I know only time will tell, but I'd like to be a little proactive if at all possible.

Thanks.

Replace the fuse and see if it happens again. If it keeps happening, then you have a problem somewhere. Sometimes it will just blow for no real reason and it won't happen again. I would run it for a while and see what happens. I am not sure if it is a common problem or not, someone else may be able to chime in on that.

My 2002 GTP lost it's fuel pump a month after I bought it new. For what it's worth, the mechanic at the dealer told me that there had been a rash of bad ones.
Take the advice of the other posts and get some spare fuses but if they keep blowing, it's indicative of excessive current draw and I'd really suspect the pump.
