Fuel Level Goes Crazy

Sometimes when I am down to about 5 gallons or when its hot outside, the gas gauge will go all the way to past F and the DIC will show like 358 something miles to go. I am not sure what the issue is. I thought it might be the sender unit but other times it works fine. Anyone know of any issues with the gas gauge? I did a search but didnt come up with anything that was very specific unless I missed it.

Thanks,

According to the schematic, the fuel level sender signal is fed to the PCM then the PCM feeds the signal to the dash gauge. So that means the issue would be in the Fuel level sender on the fuel pump, the wiring or the PCM or maybe even the gauge on the dash. It seems unlikely that the gauge on the dash is bad, and if your PCM was bad, Id imagine you'd have a whole lot of other issues so that leaves the fuel level sender.

Thanks for confirming what I thought I needed to do. Do you happen to know if the pump is accessible via the back seat or need to drop the fuel tank?

You should be able to get to it through to back see trunk pass through. Just open up the pass through, lift up the trunk carpet and you should see the access panel there.
