Fuel Injector Cleaning

Sent the injectors on the 01 GT out to be cleaned, here is the report showing the before/after flow bench results. Before on the left after on the right.

Only 1 of the 6 injectors was performing at spec, the other 5 were variously degrees of plugged. The "after" test shows them all performing identically at spec. Ironically the injectors on the 98 showed better "before" results than these did with about the same mileage (153K).

I sent them to Mr. Injector in Idaho. He charges $16 per injector plus return shipping. Service includes flow bench testing on arrival, ultrasonic cleaning, electrical test, replaces internal sock filter, both O-rings and the plastic pintle on the nozzle end. Re-checks flow on the bench before shipping back. Sent them out USPS priority on a Monday and had them back on Saturday. Bill turns the injectors around in 1 day but it's the shipping that kills the time.

He also sells DIY rebuild kits on FleaBay but you don't get the ultrasonic cleaning. I can tell you that the nozzles looked a lot cleaner when they came back, no more varnish on the ends.

Would u say this would be good to do to a car with only 50xxx miles on the fuel injectors?

Sent from my pager using Morse code. ... .. ... ....

I would say only if you are having drivability issues. I am still trying to determine what the metrics are...for example, the worst one was at 51cc against the clean standard of 55cc. So that's only a 7.5% reduction in flow, and I'm not sure in the injector world if that's considered nominal or a horrendous clog. Although having them all balanced at the same flow rate helps the engine run smoother.

I had the injectors out for a LIM job, and had downtime with the car, so decided since I was going through the engine I would get this done one time.
