Fuel Gauge

The fuel gauge on my 2001 Grand Prix GT slowly moves around. If it has 1/4 track, it may read anywhere from 1/4 to full. If actually full, it stays on full. I'm thinking it needs a new sending unit in the tank. No? I assume I'll need to drop the tank to access it?

Yes, you need a new sending unit. 01 may or may not have an access panel as they were phased out in later years. Pull up the carpet in the trunk near the back seat and see if you have an access panel bolted to the floor. If you do, then just undo the bolts, remove the panel and walah- there's the top of your fuel tank along with the pump.

If not, then some have cut an access hole for this reason. Or you can go through the hassle of dropping the tank.

Sending unit for sure. When the sending unit went out on my 2002 Pontiac GTP I upgraded the pump with the E85 Aem zzp sells. Also the in trunk fuel pump access cover wasn't phased out until 2004. Unless you wanna count miles get it repaired, it's quite easy. Let me know how it goes.
