Front window defroster problems

I have a 2006 Grand Prix and it has the dual climate control. Last year I noticed that the front defroster wouldn't work sometimes. It doesn't switch over correctly and when you turn it on the air blows down by my feet instead of the front window. I used to be able to switch it back and forth a couple times and it would fix itself but it's not switching back anymore. Is this going to be hard to fix? And expensive?

It sounds like the actuator for that control door has failed. The last one I did was a giant PITA and should've required dash removal.

you need to open up the lower dash and check to see if the rods are moving off the vac pumps. if one of the rods broke the dash sorta need to come out to fix it.

you can also check to see if the vac line off the fire wall is plugged in still, the air flow direction works off vacuum from the engine.
