Front Wheel Hub Assembly

I purchased the assembly from Rockauto Moog #513179 in May 2014 and it's bad already. I had one replaced by the dealer under warranty 4 years ago and it's still going strong. I'm getting the Moog part replaced under warranty, but for my future bearing needs I think I'll be using the dealer.

The ABS light came on and the reader indicated the right front bearing I replaced was the culprit. It indicated a problem with the ABS signal circuit. I disconnected the battery, inspected the harness and didn't find any issues. I reconnected the harness, the battery and started the vehicle. The ABS light was off and I cleared the code from the pcm history. I did however find grease seeping from the inner seal, I called Moog and was told to send it back for replace. Any ideas as to why this happened or is it that I just happened to get a defective bearing.

Could be defective bearing, or could be attributed to something you hit (like a big pothole, etc)

I have 3 Moog bearings in my 07 and have not had one issue in the last 2 years.

Modern wheel bearing hub assemblies are manufactured to high precision, and close tolerance. Final machining of the close fit parts takes place when the unit is put into service (installed on vehicle). Final machining creates excess heat that if not managed properly will not only damage the sealed non replaceable grease, also the surface finish and hardness of the metals will be damaged reducing the life span of the part.
After installation of wheel bearing hub assembly, drive short a distance (under 2 miles) and slow speed (under 50mph). This will allow the close fit parts to "wear" together a.k.a. final machining. Repeat this procedure several times increasing the distance, but keep the speed slow, this helps prevent too much heat being generated and ruining the permanent grease.
Most of all, do not just pick up vehicle from shop with new hub/hubs, and then hop on the interstate and go 70mph for 4 hours.
This procedure is known as "breaking in", and can be met with much skepticism. My experience has been, that the more tenderly I have treated any new high precision machined parts into service, the longer they have lasted.

I have never broken in a bearing and never had an issue due to it. Even rod and main bearings inside engines do not require breaking in. The only breaking in inside an engine is for the rings to seat.

Gonna call BS on the whole break-in thing. If it were the case, the mfg's would state such. Been in the automotive biz for a long time, and this topic has never come up, be it chatting with techs or training seminars with mfgs or anything.

Now, the funny part is that it makes sense with these stupid Grand Prix hubs. LOL

The new one will be hear today, since rain is expected for the next 2 days I'll wait until the weekend to install.

New bearing looks a lot different than the one Rockauto sent before. Also they no longer have the Moog part in the automobile look up, you have to enter the part number to find it. I was told they are not selling as compatible with my vehicle anymore. Back to the bearing, the new one has an H after what may be a serial number. I took pics so the difference can be seen, your thoughts on the matter are welcomed.

I was sent another replacement part by mistake and it was the old generation. One of the problems when ordering online, I'm just glad I received the next gen during the first replacement.
