Front Hub Help

I am changing my front driver wheel hub today. Has been a real pain so far. The hub was really stuck to the drive axle so i ended up putting the hub nut back on the end and hit it with a hammer til it came loose. My problem now is that I have everything back on and now im trying to put the hub nut on but it wont turn. Its the last thing i have to do to be done with it. It just barley turns on the thread then it becomes very hard to turn so I dont even want to try it. I had the hardest time getting it off after I pounded on the end also. The threads look fine to me so I dont know what the problem is. Maybe they slightly compacted on the very end and its hard to tell.

Anyone have any suggestions of what I can try next? I really dont know what to do. Thanks

if you hit the bolt hard when removing, i bet you smashed the treads, if you got a tap set that big, you could re set the treads, or maybe try a new nut.

maybe you could grind off the bad threads if they are close to the end. or the old try to force it on and hope it clears the treads for ya.

when you whacked the nut did you have the nut turned back on far enough so it sat flush with the end of the treads? if not you mashed the treads for sure.

Chances are the theaded end of the axle has mushroomed out a little, just enougjh to cause the nut to be too hard to turn. Try puting the nut on with some grease on the threads to make it eaiser. IF it feels like it is going on straight, just keep turinging and it will get passed the mushed part. BUt, if it feels real hard, it might stripp the threads. You can also try working the nut back and forth, just be carfull that it is on straight or you might not be able take it back off, or put it on further.

yeah i had the nut flush with the end of the threads but I assume maybe it was off a little and mushroomed a little. I tried to file it a little but i guess i just have to keep working at it. I dont have a die that big either so i guess thats out. Yeah if they are mashed it is so slight that i cant really tell but enough to make it very hard to put the nut on. I'll keep at it. thanks

Hey can anyone tell me what size socket to use on that front Hub? It's huge. I have a 33m socket I believe, and it was still a little too small. thx much!

Thanks guys. I was able to borrow a 35m from a local shop, and it was perfect. I wish I could find one cheap, but those suckers are between 60 and 80 bucks! Lucky the dudes at the shop are so trusting. :)
