Front end noise

I have a '00 gp se and I'm getting a noise from the front that sounds like I have those large pickup truck tires on it. I am running winter treads all around, Im in northern pa, but the noise is coming from the front. The car "howls" going down the road. The sound almost stops when I turn slightly to the left, gets worse on right turns. Jacked up front end to check for play. Noticed a bit from side to side on pass. wheel, but I didn't think it was excessesive. Should there be no play at all? or something else I can check? Thanks for looking.

Sounds like a grinding wheel bearing.

A bad bearing does not have to be loose for it to be bad, so if the sound goes almost away turning to the left, then its the right side bearing. Jack the car up, have it in neutral so you can spin the tire by hand the grab the spring with your other hand, then feel for any vibration. Do it for both sides and see what you can feel.
