Front and Rear Bumper (Paint)

Alright so I got sick and tired of my front and rear lower bumper looking the same as everyone elses... So I decide to hit it with a little paint heres how I did it:

1. First prep with some Paint Thinner, Ammonia or Alcohol what ever you have.

2. Next tape off the lower bumper and remember prep is Key to a Great paint job, So take your time here (I also used newspaper to protect from over spray).

3. Now its time to paint. I used Krylon Fusion in Black. Its a paint made for plastics and alot of guys use it to tint their tail lights so if you buy a can you can do both. With this paint you wont need to sand or use primer, So apply your First Coat LIGHT, Second Coat SEMI-LIGHT, Third Coat make it MEDIUM.

4. Once dried use a Clear Coat and do the same technique for the coats as you did with the Base Color.

5. Now take off all of your trim and admire the awesome look your car has now.

This really changed the look of my car and I hope you guys try this out too, remember you can use any color you want, think about what would look best for your car...

Pics will be up soon Sorry Guys....

Yeah I want to see pics, I'd like to try red after I get my car painted black. Any thoughts on how that would turn out?

sorry i took me 6 months to reply and post pics

but yea the red and black would look good i think but I would go with a darker red I was also thinking about painting that piece black on a black gp but you would have to be carful getting the paint to match

My car is totaled now but here are some pics from before

sorry to bring up a old thread but where do you buy the red Pontiac inserts that are on the rear bumper? or is it just painted in?

i picked mine up off ebay, I found a package with the front and rear inserts for a decent price just have to look around

some jackass backed into my grand prix and it left a huge crack in the bumper...is there anyway to fix this without getting a new bumper?

get a filler for plastic material. You may have to go to an actual auto paint and body supply store to find this. spackle the crack when it is completely dry sand the area down smooth, you may have to do this in steps with various grades of sand paper. Take a very fine sand paper 600 grit or even finer and sand down the whole bumper to remove any existing wax, dirt and any other contaminates and spray entire bumper with an elastomeric primer and then paint the entire bumber with the factory original paint. the repair job should be very difficult to tell. you'll spend I would say 50 bucks or so if you do it yourself. I say repaint the entire bumper because touching up platic parts is sometimes difficult to blend in with surrounding areas. Elastomeric primer is specially formulated for painting plastic, it retards the possibilty of the new paint cracking in the future or losing it's adherence. Hope this helps ya.

my rear bumper has a small crack in it...how can i make it look good with out replacin it?

3M makes an adhesive that works great for plastic repair. look it up online or go to a paint supply store. If you've never done body work i'd recommend taking it to a body shop and getting an estimate.
hope that helps.
