• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Four Sixer's Red Ripper

Last night was putting more stuff together and fixing broken things

LIM went on, but we will be changing that.
IMG_7275.jpg

Drivetrain came out, bumper cover came off...etc tonight.

It's a mess in there, and it'll be clean before this heads back in.

They are looking at each other.

Last night I got sidetracked with buying tools. All good stuff. LIM is mostly prepped.

Negative battery cable is full of green corrosion. I tried cleaning it, but have to suggest we change that out as well.

Transmission is a GM SERTA replacement. And funny thing the pan is stamped 4T60E. It's the same pan as the 97 used. And the trans bolts are the same larger size as a 97. I had to double check that the car was a 98 according to the door sticker. It's all good. Just means that updates etc should be in the trans.

Hope it doesnt have the vacc solenoid and vacc lines for the kickdown like the 97s do if not your fine. Oh and it should have a removable diff cover right ?

I'm well versed with difference between 4T60 and 4T65's. Plus it's charged originally and I've heard of only a select few that came with 60's and were charged.

The car has a build date of 11/97. The trans is a GM rebuild replacement. The bolts being the larger size only means the casing was a 97 originally or late 97 like the car. It's interesting to see the pan on it saying 4T60. I know they fit, a few other guys realize it as well, but most people would never try that pan on that trans.

My car originally came with the 4T60 but when I had it rebuilt I had all the updated/beefed internal stuff installed so that if I were to SC my car the trans would hold and take power..

EDIT: I just read what foursixer put down about the trans. This is exactly what went into mine.

300m input shaft
3.29 gears and 7/8 chain
shift kit
All valve body and spacers plate mods and updates
All new solenoids[/FONT]

Pulling the VSS sensor to replace it, I found that it hadn't been removed and simply wiped off. There was typical metal material all over it. This is a simple step that takes a moment. Having worked on a few transmissions myself, this is a given as it's a magnet and always has this material on it.

Pics are from Friday, been a little under the weather.
Odd to put a 60 pan on a 65, but in the early 65's, the bolts were the same larger size

Another thing, this trans has been replaced.

Lots more to come. The LIM got it's second batch of JB Weld last evening. Should be ready to go on tonight. Then the drivetrain is ready to drop in.

i owned the car for about a 1.5 years. i dont know the history on the car, but im sure its not to good because of the (rebuilt tittle).

LOL, I pulled the stock airbox out the car. That's how stock it is/was before pulling the engine.

Up and running: I could have it running tonight. Realistically with me being booked with the girl from Thurs-Mon, it should be done/close to done by Wed/Thur of next week. There's a few other things Len is doing beyond just motor/trans.

Last night was finishing up the LIM, doing a bit of work to prep the top end like plug the evap on the SC, check all the gaskets, make one for the IC to LIM etc, grind a bracket lightly for fuel rail fitment, check bolts, strip needed parts (alt/brackets etc) from old motor. Cleaned up a bit and prepping the rest of the goods for the car. Tonight is planned to drop in the headers, motor/trans and start hooking everything back up. It's going to be so nice working in a clean engine bay with a clean drivetrain etc.

Test fitting stuff the other night:

After this picture the penny was JB welded over.

And last night:

Say AHHHHH
IMG_7312.jpg

Apparently I missed a picture of it in the cradle, it went in like butter. Sometimes you can't ask for things to go easier and that's just how this slid into the engine bay.

Got called out earlier and therefore a late start tonight. Got the rear header bolted up, driverside dogbone bracket, AC orifice tube, drier and all the seals changed out. Lemme tell ya..orifice tube.. what a blast.

Going after the orifice tube, the FSM says remove the EBTM.

There's the little guy sticking his head out.
IMG_7323.jpg

New supplied tube on left, old in the middle. Uh Houston we got a slight issue. A quick trip to Advance Auto and the right one was purchased.
IMG_7324.jpg

Finished up the drier, seals and connection to the compressor since the front exhaust is off, it's easy from the top. :)

Snout turn down time. Out came the tool and Intense/ZZP pullies to ensure any of the ones that fit would have clearance. ZZP ones have more offset than Intense.
ZZP Pulley

Intense pulley.. gotta make sure the small stuff fits!
IMG_7318.jpg

Oh yeah..
IMG_7320.jpg

Popped the snout cap back in place and put the 3.4 back on for the time being.
