Found another car, I dunno what to do...

Well, I know of a 1985 Buick T-Type I could purchase. Its been sitting for over 10 years. The Pros and cons...

Pros:
-Its a legit T-type car, don't know the color its primer
-Its a T-Top car
-Floor shift car w/ buckets
-Still got the original wheels IIRC
-Still got the hood

Cons:
-No motor or tranny
-Needs paint and body work, never been wrecked and I don't believe it has any rust.
-Pretty much needs a resto. I need to check out the dash and stuff, but the interior is complete minus the radio. Probably will need to be freshed up. It was covered for awhile.

The story. I've known of this car for many years, since I met my friend Jack back in 2000. Its his brothers car, its been sitting since i've known them. Its moved around some in the yard (they live on 5 acres), otherwise it sat there pretty much as is. I saw the car again a few weeks ago, its always interested me. A little over 10 years ago his brother bought the car off some ol boy for a grand or two. It had a 455 BB in it and a Turbo 400. It needed the tranny refreshed I think. Anyway, he fixed it up and drove it for 6 months. He took it to the track once and it ran a 13.8 as it set. In a matter of weeks the motor spun a rod bearing and it was parked. The motor and tranny were eventully yanked out and thats really it....

Price for the car as is $800! And supposedly it has a clear title.

The car has always been there and has interested me. I've always wanted a T-type or GN, they have always been my dream cars. What I kinda like about this car, since its not original, numbers matching or anything like that, I can pretty much do it my way and not worry about ruining a classic, its not all there anyway (as far as the original Turbo parts go). As for the motor, I think i'd have to duplicate Chody and Trannyman project, and drop in a Turbo L67/L32. Use an aftermarket FMHE etc. I donno so many ideas. I believe the car as it sits is worth way more than $800, in fact I think I could part it out and make money if I wanted too.

Whats killing me now is storing it to rebuild, time to rebuild it, and cost. I'd have to do this for a bit of a budget. BUT I wanna do it right too. I'm wondering if i'm sinking into something I shouldn't. I'm pretty much done with my GTP mod wise, maybe a little suspension and give it some track time otherwise its where I want it. The TBSS is expensive to mod and has a 5yr/100 on it, I don't wanna do to much to it for awhile now. I guess i'm wanting a toy.

Anyway, i figured i'd post this up to get some thoughts from you guys. What do you think?

Thanks!
Shawn

Ehh I am not really a fan of the looks but the things it does :th_thumbsup-wink: Sign me up for the go for it column. If you have the minimum funding to do keep it and slowly fix it I say why not? If you really want it and you think you can do something with it... You only live once right? :th_laugh-lol2:

i would take a regal t-type over a grand national any day of the week. what's more entertaining than a cruiser that does 10s?

You're right you only live once. If I had plenty of room and a place for it to set for awhile longer, i'd get it and set it to the side. I donno if its worth for me to get it or not. This maybe one of those situations where i'd regret it later on.

Me too, T-Types got some chrome and come in different colors. I'd probably go Artic White for this project, I like white vehicles.

And you're right, a 10 sec cruiser would be badass. This car has got unlimited potential no doubt!

I think this is going to be a kick yourself in the pants if you pass it up moment. I had the chance of having a 77' vette and have regretted it every day. I have to push you on this haha, but if there isn't space and you don't have the funding prepare for regrets but you also may have the chance in the future if it isn't going anywhere.

OR if your friend doesn't mind you can purchase it and ask to leave it on his property until you get your funds and space setup throw a tarp on her and kiss her once for good luck. Save, save and save some more because I want to see this turn into the 10 second cruiser bio called it :D

for 800 bucks! you cant beat that! those cars are getting harder to find!

that i sjust cying for a turbo V6!!!

800 bucks, I say go for it. And like you csaid, you can probably make your money back and then some if you part it out. If you don't get time to work on it, there you go.

My buddy Gib (rocketman69) is a big fanatic of those old T Types. If he were on here he'd probably bribe you out of that car.

Gib, wasn't he at Branson? I think I met him.

I'm still debating it. I found a little more info on doing an L67 swap on one. Its a bit more expensive than I first thought. I may have to go a different route on this project.

if you get it return it to stock. I wouldn't give much for it tho....just because it has no engine or tranny.

If you get it and you end up getting it looking like this then go for it!

I won't be able to do anything until this weekend. I'm still debating it. Returning it to fairly original (motor/trans/turbo parts/etc) is very costly to say the least. I don't wanna buy kit an install the wrong motor, but then again, that would be the most cost effective.

i agree that car is AMAZING! minus the rims... torque thurst III's would look pimp on her or some american racing 15' wheelz
