For Matt.... - SSAC/SD downpipe fix

the stock dp doesnt have a flex....

The stock downpipe doesn't have a flex section like we use on our headers. The flange at the top of the downpipe does have a flexible head to give some movement with the engine though.

I did mine up the same way as Drunkie, but kept the v-band clamp at the bottom of the rear header and used a flex in front of the cat right after the bend.

you're right, it does. i forgot about that. so yours is basically like a tog style dp then?

Sorta like that. The amount of space left available after the merge collector wasn't long enough to fit a flex in so I had to put it right after the bend running horizontally.

Here you go. Just a crappy cell phone pic I took after I got it done.

Re: For Matt....

There are ton of cars out there with out a flex section. I've been running this for months now, I think the hangers are fine.

I know LS1 guys with out any flex sections on a Rear Mount Turbo setup...Its fine

Thats because their engines rock side to side not front to back, trust the guy that works at an exhaust shop.

silver gtp I stole your pic for my exhaust thread, let me know if you want it removed.

No problem. I'll take a better picture for you now that I know you're interested in using it in the exhaust thread. Would hate to crap up your thread with that bad pic when a good one is only a trip to the garage away.

Could you get one looking up in the firewall tunnel by where the first 02 bung was. Thanks

Sorry 01GTP. I didn't get a chance to jack it up and climb under it today for pictures. I got tied up doing stuff with my daughter. The snow tires need to go on this weekend though so I should be able to get them tomorrow.

I took 3 pictures of the downpipe I made to replace the stock sink trap. There is an album in my profile that has them.

Here's a summary of what it took to make it: I bought a new v-band clamp with flanges off e-bay for about $25 iirc. The high flow cat and flex came from ZZP for about $100. All the piping used came from the original downpipe. The rear header was cut just after the collector (the top of the original flex). The short, straight pipe was cut and welded onto the end of the cat. The slip fit right before the rear O2 was kept in place allowing the cat to be slid out of the rear half of the exhaust. The new flex was welded onto the front of the cat. A short piece of straight pipe was welded on after the collector and a bung was added for the wideband. The part of the stock sink trap with the v-band was cut off at the angle needed to match up to the new flex and welded on. One of the flanges from the new v-band was welded to the bottom of the rear header. Everything was then installed. I also cut the crossover and put a flex in since the ends of it don't slide straight in the way it's made. Band clamps were placed at the 3 slip joints that are left.
