flowmasters

ya the mechanic at the exhaust shop kept trying to tell me to let him cut off the resonator. i was like man its a grand prix, not a honda, the resonator stays! haha. sounds good tho with no mufflers and a stock res. very throaty, and a lot deeper than i expected out of a 6 cylinder. my buddy asked me if it was an V8. i took it as a compliment.

you definitely need a resonator OR a glasspack on every exhaust. i wont have one on my TBSS when i get it, but that is an ls2. :p

TB SS without a Res FTW!

I like not having that ugly resonator hanging behind the rear valance, it improved the looks IMO.

For now all mine has is no Res and a Flowmaster 40 Series 2 chamber in place of the stock muffler. It sounds great, LS2 is a great sounding motor. I plan on changing it up in the future, probably to a full cat back, we'll see.

On my next...muwaaaaahaaahahahahahahaha!!!!....(sorry) GP, I will put in a Thrush glasspack - IMO, that is the only one that has a decent sound. You all need to realize - no matter what you do, or what you spend - a V6 will never sound like a V8. Just like a Honda or Yamaha will never sound like a Harley.

(Put Spintechs on my '04 Goat...mmmmmm sex.) [/sidenote)

That being said - the resonator must go on ANY GP that does exhaust work, and a glass pack must be installed. It is so written...and so it shall be.

i just found out that i have flowmasters on my car. i think they sound pretty good, but theres no res so it drones a lot

haha you just found out?? what did you think you had? :th_scratchhead: . and i still have my stock res but no mufflers, and I mines drones a lot too. But i kinda like it! :D

well i suppose its always better to find a couple flowmasters then maybe the mufflers off a miata or something? haha

This thread has me very confused... Cause if no mufflers sounds good I'd rather go with that. It's alot cheaper and just looks better IMO. But some people say it sounds like rice and I should get flowmasters or somethin. Does your no muffler setup really sound good? Did you lose hp cause of a loss in backpressure? (mind you I own a GT)

i gotta call b/s on the no muffler sound! i have a pretty good leak behind the resonator, and it doesn't sound that good!

you NEED mufflers for a good tone. the exhaust note that these cars make, resonator or not, is trash. you have to have some sort of muffler to create some form of an exhaust note.

like i said, this whole topic is very opinionated. some ppl say straight pipes all the way back, some say stock everything. Most have a fav resonator and muffler combination. Personally, I run a stock resonator with no mufflers, and I think it sounds f*&^in awesome. But I'll admit on the interstate it drones. Here's a link if you want to hear mine:

YouTube - Grand Prix GTP Exhaust

I say cut the mufflers off and run it like that for a few days, if you like it great, if not through a couple flowmasters on. (Or w.e muffler). That's what I did, and ended up with leaving the mufflers off.
