Floats into gear?????

So I was driving today and I noticed that when it shifts into 3rd and 4th gear it floats like it in neutral for a second I am going to get the fluid changed tomorrow because I haven't done it since I have had the car, about 6 months now, and since there was a rag in my oil pan I am assuming the previous owner hadn't taken care of it the way they should have and didn't change it for a while anyone have any advise for me maybe something else an underlying issue maybe. Oh and on a side note for about 10 min before it started "floating" into gear it was shifting a little hard nothing really hard but noticable

If you have a scanner or can get access to one, you need to do that to see if there are any stored codes as some trans codes will not set the SES light. You could drop the pan and change the filter and 7.4 qts of fluid. You could see then if you have anything major laying in the pan or inside the filter.
 
I just changed mine and it seems to shift better. I am still having an issue though that does not throw any codes. I would get yours scanned first incase there is something that needs repair so you don't drop the fluid twice.
 
Yea a rag in the oil pan it was pretty old a deterorated when i had the oil changed it must have jarred it loose then it got caught in the oil pump= new motor
 
I took my car to the shop and they said the trans fluid was fine not to dirty it wasn't burnt and my car hasn't acted up except for the one time for a few minutes so I gues I will just ride it out and keep stashin cash in the bank in case somethin bad does happen
