Flickering dash lights

I am a new GPGT owner and have been battling through a lot of issues. I am wrapping up the intake gasket job along with a tune up and ready to start battling the next issue. My dash lights, interior lights, and message center lights will flicker or pulse slightly. I think the headlights may as well, but it is not as noticeable. It does not happen all the time, but it is especially noticeable in the morning when first started in the cold. The darkness probably makes it more noticeable as well. I am thinking it may be the ignition switch wiring harness in the steering column, but before tackling it I thought I would ask. I had the alternator tested and it was good. I also noticed when I was doing the intake that the orange wire to the alternator was cut and capped with a wire nut?? Do you know why this would be? Could this be causing the issue? I have noticed that the voltage was up near 16v at times as well.

Its a 2002 GT with 3800 Series II

Thanks for any help!

you mean the wire from the fuse box top to the alt? if thats been cut and spliced, replace it. that could be the light issue.

It was the wire in the small control connector to the wire harness. Has an orange and a red probably about 16 gage. The orange was cut. Once I finish up the intake today and am able to start it We will see what happens. I'm just afraid of what type of rig job was done with all the stuff I am finding!

post a pic or two. sounds like a poor repair. you'll want to get rid of the wire nut, cut the ends of the wire back til you get to clean shinny copper wire, then solder it back together or add a new wire if need be to keep it the same length. solder and shrink tube the new connections.

i forgot to add. theres 3 main grounds on the bell housing of the tranny, one is the neg cable from the battery, and 2 more smaller grounds, make sure they are all tight and the wires are not falling out of the eye loops at the ends. seen them cause some light flickering when loose or falling a part.

Thanks for the help! The reconnected orange wire to the alternator seemed to do the trick! No flickering as of yet. Hopefully it stays that way.
