First time ever drag racing!

Friday I went out to my local drag strip for the first time as a driver. Wanted to get some numbers before I did any work to the GTP. Drag strip is 1/8 mile, weather was about 75-80 with low humidity.

I averaged about a 9.9 sec 1/8 mile at around 71 mph. slower runs were with a passenger. Mind you I had subs, spare, and all that good stuff in the trunk the whole time as well. Is this about normal for this car?

I DID beat an S10 with a V8 swap and drag radials which I was pretty proud of. Other races I lost to a modded GTP, new STI, and Camaro. Slips follow.

Those 1/8 times are only equivalent to about a mid to high 15 second run.

The fact you beat a V8 S10 just shows you beat the driver on that run.

Like I said, first time ever going so reaction time and launch ability aren't great. Plus the car's totally stock besides the intake so I assumed 15's in the quarter as that's what everyone else says these run stock.

Not a bad time for stock. A guy at my local track runs a stock 99 gtp always runs a 15.4 all day long even heat soaked. I know he traps 94mph, i guess that's average. He races it every weekend with high miles on the stock trans.
