First kill!!

A guy where I work has a 2003 Honda Civic coupe with a factory body kit and the base 1.7L I4 with AEM cold air intake, he wanted to race me. So after work to day we cruised around. We couldn't hit a stop light on time so we did a roll at 25. I totally killed him pulling about 2 cars and slowed down at 60mph. Then we cruised some more and hit a stop light right on the yellow we stopped and waited. I held it at about 2000 RPM's and gunned it when the light turned green. Being wet out I had massive wheel spin and he got a little ahead of me then at about 35-40mph I started pulling him in and at 60mph I had just a noise on him when he let out of it. I was pretty happy how my car did from a roll but I wish it was a dry out then I could get some traction from a dig. Overall I am very happy how my car performed with 160,000 miles and the rear right brake always grinding and just having the intake gasket replaced after the over heating issues. I know beating a Honda civic is not much to brag about beating but being the first time it made me feel a little better about my car. At least something is slower then I am :)

Congrats!!!!!! I can't wait for it to be warm so I can drive the Cutlass and find some guy that thinks his car is fast and think ahh it's just a girl she doesn't know how to race and then I bet him!!! I love it!!!!! We can't really find anyone to race around here anymore and it sucks!!!

Dude that grinding is the rear capilers going bad if thats ot fixed it will eventually lock up on you... or catch on fire but thats the worse case i had that happen to me in my first gp the right rear capiler stuck and heated the rotor up so bad it was glowing when i pulled over cause i didnt know it

Ya there arn't many around here to race unless you talk to them before hand. I can't wait for the summer too to come so that I can race some other people in there little Neon's and Honda's.

I know I have to get it fixed. I am just waiting for it to get nice out which will be about a month I hope.

You should be fine waiting about a month just don't do too much racing or you might not be able to stop and meet the person in front of you :D

what? you have no one to race you? in fort wayne, the whole town drive a grand prix! i never see so many gps in any town other than fort wayne, In.

Man everyone is to scared to race here!!! Actually I don't think there are very many GP's that have stuff done to them. Mostly older people or girls drive them and don't care to race.

I disagree with 2fast4u if the op doesnt get them done asap then he's gonna have problems. I now first hand from my 92 did the same thing and the left rear wheel almost locked up and had to be towed into the shop to have them done. that was back when i didn't know crap about changing the intergaed parking brake style rear capilers the 91-93 gp's have

It could just need the caliper sliders relubed. with all the road grime/salt/sand....could have easily made its way into the smallest of places. also those are the screw in kind...so you will need to twist the piston and push in at the same time. with that many miles I would focus on a new caliper anyways..they are actually cheap for that year..which is a good thing. but that dang E-brake cable......

it takes a WHILE for a caliper to lock up..but by that time you will have signs in the brakes themselves...feel, loss in fuel econoy from brake sticking..and a general sluggish feel coming off a light. as long as you have some pad left I dont see why you couldnt go for a little while. heat would be the biggest problem. steam coming off rotor, rotor glowing...yes they will occur on a severely worn caliper.

aside from this, very nice kill. from a dead stop I dont see why you couldnt have gotten him by 3-4. torque is not one of Honda's greatest strengths....

loking forward to reading your dry run this summer!!!!

Grinding is never good. My sister always waits and she ends up needing way more done lol. Longer you wait the more damage you risk. Calipers are fairly inexpensive as it was mentioned. With those miles I'd overhaul the rear brakes if its in your budget. Every GM I've had there were issues with the sliders, I agree that is most likely the cause of your problem. They love to seize up. Of course I am brutal on brakes. 100+ MPH to zero tends to wreck havoc on rotors :th_jester: My problems are always the front. With brakes there is no exact timeline. I've milked bad brakes for months with no major failure and I've had a caliper lock up without warning on my T/A.
Now I am older and a bit more cautious. I dont skimp on brakes and tires. Thats all you have to stop safely. Especially now that I have a family in my car. I routinely check them and replace parts before they fail. (prevention)
Congrats on the kill though. Sorry to ramble on and on.

:th_biggrin2: When I race (and win of course) all the guys yell "you just got beat by a girl!" It's kinda funny.

I agree also with the gp's. All girls and no mods. They are either uncool moms or teens.

I love it too when they say you just got beat by a girl!!!

Ya I know I should have beat him really good from a stop but I just spun them hard because of the wet. He is going to do some stuff to his car like exhaust work and other stuff and he thinks its really going to help him. I still think I can beat him when its dry from a stop. From a roll of any kind I will kill him every time.

I will do the breaks in a month or less when I get the money.

I never rub it in or talk crap! I know that there is always some faster. But, I don't have to say anything because I know that everyone else will;)

I misunderstood what you were saying about ur brakes (thought u meant when u raced that guy)if they are grinding really bad then u need new brakes ASAP!!!! They are probably the original brakes on the back, and they could be falling apart. You should definitely have the calipers checked they are pretty bad on those cars. If ur going to wait try not to drive ur car much it might help and take it easy on the brakes. :)

I have been driving the car this way for about 1 month with no problems be sides all that brake dust on my rims. I think the pads are worn out now. I put new brakes on the front about 2 months ago.

The guy at my work is cool doesn't brag about his car and is not one of those ricers. He said to me all day at work that I would beat him.

There are a lot of us around town, most just don't show em off. Though I'm out at Hall's or somewhere that direction every friday and saturday. Dave actually did my top swap over two years ago (back when you guys were in the warehouse type building). But I'm going to Indy soon to pick up the new build parts. Woot! Sorry for the off topic direction.

I'll throw down with the Cutty, I have yet to see it do more than move around the driveway. Or we can do truck vs. the trailblazer if you still have it. :D I know a TB SS walked Dave in my car when he was tuning it lol

It moves!!! The motor has to be yanked and gone through and then the turbo is going on!!!! :th_biggrin2: I drive the car more than Dave does, when its nice out I drive it more then the trailblazer. Yea I remember him telling me that when he got home from tuning ur car!!! Dave will race u when he gets the car done he'll love it!!!! I'll race ya when I get use to driving it with the turbo on it.
