not much really, i bought the car and it had a ****ty kenwood deck so i put in a nice pioneer cuz it looked and worked better and was newer. I put in new front speakers because the originals were blown out. thats all I've done
 
No biggie...audio doesn't have to be expensive. I preach install and method. You know that bose uses a $3 driver? I wouldn't ever use them...but they've certainly made a name for themselves based on a pretty weak driver. So price doesn't = good sound. You can sort through posts I've made or look at my signature links too if you'd like
 
thats crazy. my deck was only 70 bucks and it works great. its got everything i need so I'm happy with it

I would "guess" you have seen a 3/4 horsepower increase. I'm no 3800 pro though, so somebody should correct me if I'm wrong.

There is a sizable difference between the two when it comes to gains from simple bolt on's. You're going to net much more power from a s/c application with a cai, sorry, that's just the truth. Don't mistake intake sound for horsepower. It's a niece peice you have on your car, it's just alot of car guys have the "bang for buck" mentality. That being the case, all they're saying is that you could have gotten the same performance improvement for much cheaper. Of course it wouldn't have looked as good, but there really is no flow difference to speak of between your k&n filter and the oft-used spectra filter.

What you have isn't a dyno sheet for your car, and it doesn't even apply to your application. Even if you had a s/c car, you couldn't use it as proof of your gains because it isn't your car on the dyno. What you have is a best case scenario of what that particular cai kit could give 3800 car. It's how they sell their product, most aftermarket performance part manufacturers do this. Don't take people here the wrong way, and taking a defensive stance to people who are trying to teach you things isn't hurting anyone but yourself. They're just trying to point you down the right road, sharing is caring right? Lulz.


Also, Matt5112 is one of the more knowledgeable guys on this site, he knows his sh*t. I would listen more openly to him the next time around if I were you. He's also a moderator, not really a great idea to try and be a dick to him for no reason.

Intake improves throttle response, THUS making your car FEEL faster since it makes more noise at WOT too...when in fact it isn't (Hi, welcome to adding performance parts 101. N/A 3800's with bolt on's stuggle to make the WHP numbers K&N claims with their intake...it's called research, we've been there, you have not.) The K&N is also a heat-soaking mess, been around a few 3800's that have them...and lawlz at the plastic guard to keep heat out?

As well; Spending $200 on a 3800 intake is like wiping your ass with American Currency, because it's worthless.

the heat shield is not plastic its metal it also serves as a bracket to hold the pcm in place so the intake isn't just sitting on top of it

my pcm is just laying there for 2 years now, car is not garaged, went thru stupid chicago winters like a bawssssss. also, you can make your own pcm tray for 10 bucks.

Cheap metal heat soaks just as bad as plastic does.

You can get a PCM tray from a S10/Blazer from a junkyard for a few bucks. Same thing. Possibly even better. Still winning.
 


what you dont realize is that filter costs $60.00 on its own.. the rest is just the molded plastic/phenolic or whatever you want to call it with the letters K&N stamped or stickered to it...NAME=$$$

Now i spent about 100 to make my intake nice...its all pvc pipe, with a K&N filter on the end...like i stated before, it will for sure, outflow any CAI/HAI you buy from anyone. And seriously, listen to what we have to say about things you are thinking about or have done. We know these engines inside and out and can go on for hours about every little pro and con. So dont take what we say with a grain of salt else you will end up like the cat pushing the watermelon out of the lake..

does this look like cheap Auto zone crap to you?

I had a K&N and then threw on a $20 AEM Dryflow filter and it "felt faster" and all that great stuff.

Also, if I could make 15whp off of a little extra air, I'd be rolling in power since my TB and S/C are ported too. Mmm dat airflow.
Hell, I think even doing a pulley drop on an L67 only averages out to about 30 at the wheels.

Coming on here with a know-it-all attitude, especially after letting us all know this is your first 3800-powered car, won't earn you any respect which you will REALLY want if you ever need help. And if you have ANY intentions of modding, you'll need it. People come on here all the time for help just to fix something that broke rather than taking it to a shop.

I'm not saying any of this with the intentions of flaming you or such, I'm saying it for your own good. Myself as well as most of the guys that have given their input have been on these forums a LONG time, and we've seen plenty of people come and go because they acted like they knew everything because they read it on the internet or saw it on a piece of paper. Take this as some friendly advice, and you'll do a lot better and get a lot more help here.
