First Grand Prix GT

so i popped the hood today to see what i was going up against and i noticed that the previous owner added a K&N air filter to it and if i was going to do the FWI i would have to remove the air box is that normal? i'm assuming it is because it has the same entry point into the engine.
 


So my brother and i were trying to install the CAI today and when we took the air box out we noticed that it also mounted some wires/plugs and on heatsink (i'm pretty sure that's what it was). It looks like there were some holes to mount it to underneath when we took the air box off is that where I should mount it or is there a better place?

I'll post pics tomorrow when I get the chance.
