First Car (some problems) Need some advice

Accident

New member
I just bought my first car a 2000 grand prix gt and i had done lots of work to it just to pass safety.

brakes and rotors all the way around
rear right trailer bar was bent had to get a new one
sway bar is cracked got that replaced
both front tie rods needed to be replaced
front left hub

now here is my problem, i got check engine light on and the computer code said it was the Mafs and i tried cleaning it with compressed air and it doesnt help a bit.
My second problem is my exhaust resonator has holes in it, wondering if it could be patched or i have an old stock exhaust system that came with the car when i bought it. if i could i just replace that.

the car jumps rpm on idle will go low then high and bounce around , if anyone could help that would be amazing

Hey "Accident" I was just in London today....go to Parts Source on Wharncliffe Rd S and ask for it. They dont have it on the shelf, its behind the counter. I would imagine the Parts Source at I think its Dundas and Highbury would have it too. I prefer the one on wharncliffe tho.

Where abouts in London are you? I grew up in Lambeth..

Right on. I used to work at MufflerMan across from Masonville Mall, and then moved on to Toyota Town / Lexus of London working on the Lexus side, to where I am now north of the city working on Farm Equipment.

well if i clean my mass air flow do you think that will help the rpm moving around on me?

do you think we could meet up one day and you could take a look

Jumping RPM is a symptom of either a filthy MAF sensor, a broken MAF sensor, or an unplugged MAF sensor. Clean it with MAF sensor cleaner.

Also, replace that resonator - they're not terribly expensive.

The stock rear trailing arms bend on all W-bodies, because it's a "u-shaped" channel. You'll want tubular rear trailing arms to prevent bending.

i unplugged it two sperate times and it runs the exact same. so im not sure what the problem is now.

ill buy the new maf but if that doesnt help i dont know what it is.

the code reads its MAF

Like I said Accident, replace the MAF and let me know how it goes. If you still want me to come out on Sunday I can.

The resonator I was told to just remove it and put in a regular pipe. My mechanic said all it will do is make the sound out the exhaust a little louder. Mine is rusted beyond belief and right now we put an exhaust band on it for like 3 bucks its a metal band that wraps around it, It sure made my car quieter, but it have another hole so I need to put another band on or just take it off and put in a pipe. Basically the resonator according to my mechanic is a 3rd muffler and was a bad idea from Pontiac.

I had a friend who removed the resonator on his Grand Prix and His exhaust sounds better then Mine does. At least I think his sounds better then mine does
