• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Finalized LIM gasket plans

Scotty, I watched a video on YouTube yesterday on how to replace a thermostat because I was bored, and guess what car they did it on? Of course right after our Holden discussion, I find a video of one. It even had conventional green in it, not DEX-COOL. Thought it was pure irony lol. I can bring up the video if I can find it again.

Oil filter good, coolant doesn't leak anymore, idles properly, brakes work good, no more overheating. I'd say she's a happy car lol. Except for the leaky oil pan, but no one needs to know about that.

Told you so on the brakes.. lol
Good job overall .. did it faster than some (cough cough) guys (yes two of them) could swap their motors.

On that oil pan leak. Are you sure it's the pan and not the rear engine cover gasket? Because quite often it's both and once the pan gasket is done..it's still leaking.

The rear valve cover? I changed that gasket when I did my LIM gasket. I guess I can hose it all down and check for leaks in a week or so.

no, rear engine cover. its sorta like the front timing cover, but on the back where you cant get to it unless you pull the engine, or the tranny out.

Unless it can be done without pulling the motor, it's not gonna get done. I'm hoping it's the oil pan in that case then.

my old engine's pan leaked all over. once the engine was out i could see the rear cover was leaking too.

the new engine i got, its last owner changed its oil pan, and it still leaked on him. when i got it i saw the rear cover was leaking too. changed the rear gasket and oil pan gasket, and front cover gasket. (hell every gasket really) and no more oil leaks.

I think I'll stop right where I'm at for now. I don't have a hoist or anything for the oil pan. It doesn't leak fast anyway.

You need to go look at more pictures.. lol

You'll find the part I'm talking about. Its very common and really pisses a person off after they swap out the oil pan gasket and it keeps on leakin

i failed to take a single pic of the rear cover on or off. but you could see it was wet 2 inches up on both sides at the cover bottom.

on both my engines.

What's the easiest way to see if it's leaking? Do you have to jack it up and look from the bottom, or can you look from the top?

Also depends on the rate of the leak. If the oil pan is simply "moist" then maybe just leave it be. Oil is cheap.

Plants love oil anyways.
