F body brakes..

Have searched and searched. Haven't come up with any real answers..just leaves me feeling confused.

I have a 2000 Impala. From what I have heard, I have 12" rotors up front.

It should be a straight up bolt on for F-body calipers, right? I have an opportunity to get some on the cheap.

What all do I need to make it work on my car?

F-body calipers and brackets. Either tap the brackets for the W-body bolts with a 14x2 tap or get the right size sleeves for the F-body bracket bolts. You'll also need to either bend your brake line to wheel well brackets down a little or get longer stainless braided lines. You'll also need to use the F-body caliper banjo bolts. All this info should be in the big bad brake thread

Uh...my setup was identical to what was on my brothers supercharged monte carlo, lol

Just curious, after coming from a lot of time spent at LS1tech, where the common upgrade for F-bodies is the C5 brake setup (same calipers, minus the casting technique, but with larger rotors), why upgrade to F-body brakes when the C5 brakes are just a small step away? Too big for most wheels or is there another issue?

AFAIK, the F-body brakes are still excellent, with good pads/fluid/rotors they'll still brake better than 99% of cars on the road.

C5 caliper brackets wont work on our spindles. Thats why F-body guys mount C5/C6 calipers using custom brackets.

KORE3 did design a bracket so we could use the C5 calipers and C5 13" rotors. A clubgp remember was working with them and has a set. He said they were going to put them in production after some testing, but haven't heard anything in a while.

F-bodys are way better than stock GP calipers, but they are very weak and prone to clam shelling when over heated. C5s are better and C6s are even better in preventing this.

C5 calipers will mount right in the Fbody brackets, but then you don't gain the increase in rotor diameter.

But yes, the C5's are pressure cast, rather than gravity cast, which does give them some more resistance to deforming under hard use. I wouldn't call the Fbody calipers "very weak" though, they seem to hold up quite well (compared to other factory calipers at least) under hard auto-x or track use.

c6 calipers work as well (just not the z06 ones) and are apparently even "stronger" from what i heard on vette forums. overkill for out rides, but swag for vette lettering.

Rotors aren't that expensive, get the F-body rotors while your at it, since you will need new pads.

And...If I'm not mistaken your rotors are actually 11.7"

I thought the camaro's wheels were a different lug spacing? Or is it close enough that I literally can use camaro rotors? That's one of the main things that confuses me

They are: but look up the rotor specs, the stud hole is oversized to accommodate both bolt patterns.

ok so if the impalas come with f body rotors then all i would need to do is grab the brackets and put it on my gp and it should work with my calipers right?

Or just grab the impala setup. 06+ is dual piston / 12" rotor setup. Plus it's a direct swap. No need to drill, tap, anything

You must not hang out on ls1tech "THAT" much then.. lol..
They junt the stock rotors if they want to auto X

and yes I know C5 calipers will work in f-body brackets. I will be running some soon. But you cant use the C5 13" rotors.
