f body brakes good?

2000GTP

New member
my car needs new brakes, so i was thinking about gettin the f body front brake kit... is it any good?

yea i guess what im really trying to say is that is zzp's kit good, or am i better off ordering the calipers from them and buying rotors and pads elsewhere. Summit racing has their line of "extreme performance" rotors that are cheaper, and they are cross drilled and slotted... do they make good rotors?

The one thing I dont like about ZZP kits are they don't drill and tap the brackets....they give you these stupid little bushings to mount the brackets........THAT is a no no in my book.

is there any other way you would reccomend? i also wanted to know if any rotor from a 1998-2002 fbody will fit our cars, because i checked summit racing and they have alot of rotors and zzp only offers the powerslot ones and standard f body ones

The rotors for the Trans am, forumla, and camaro SS are the ones you should be looking for, they used the big rotor combo. You can still get the kit from zzp if you want, but I'd suggest getting the threads redone on the brackets before you put them on the car.

I got mine from the salvage yard off of a V8 firebird, bought new rotors and pads from the local parts house and had a buddy drill and tap the holes,
rotors=60 dollars, pads 35, calipers and brackets 50,= $145.
the feeling you get from beeing able to actually stop, priceless......

Yeah, definitely try to just find a set at a local junk yard or something. Then undoubtedly drill and tap the brackets. The bushings will come loose if you use them.

I got my f-body brakes from zzp, just because I wanted them to be new. I also purchased the powerslot rotors. I got the brackets drilled and tapped at a local machine shop, it was about $35 because i had to buy the tap. If you decide to get new brake lines go with the goodridge stainless lines.

i really wanted osme new calipers but i dont really have the money anyway. so you guys dfinitely think i should find sme at a junkyard? only problem is i dont have a tap and die set, and I just need to know what size hole to do? Would i have to buy any mounting hardware as well?

get yourself to a machine shop, I ordered my tap through them, the only reason i ordered it was because they didn't have that size tap. As far as hardware, your stock caliper bracket bolts will now fit the f-body calipers after you tap them. You will need the bleeder screws, caliper pins, pin boots, and brake-line to caliper bolts, which should all be there on the f-body brakes. You might as well rebuild the calipers if you get them from a junk yard. Make sure you use blue lock-tite and torque bracket,caliper pin, and brake line bolts to spec because you wont want them to come loose. You will need to bleed them as well.
