exhaust setup

i want to replace the restricting parts of my exhaust. so first off headers are too expensive for me and im stayin N/A so its not too big of a deal. i also want to keep my stock cat. a U-bend delete is definatley a must and i was told a 2.5'' downpipe is the best for N/A engines to keep the right back pressure...so i believe after manifolds, a shorty downpipe will mount to my cat and my cat will mount to the U-bend delete and then to the resonator...is this correct? any and all help is appreciated

ZZ Performance

*tips on which kind of steel or other brands of downpipes is also appreciated thanks

You wouldnt be interested in a high flow cat? I would go with the PLOG and downpipe all from zzp.....you probably wont find better pricing on this.....DP with u bend delete is the first most restrictive and then your front manifold........

yep thats wut i thot...well im in ohio so i can go stock cat, high flow, cat or no cat. im keeping my stock mufflers and resonator bc i dont want it to sound raspy...which is the reason y im weary about changing the cat

the cat has nothing to do with rasp.......it is in the resonator.(leave the stock one in and you wont have rasp) You can go hi flow cat then in the zzp downpipe setup and have it all delivered as one unit ready to bolt in for under $200 dollars. right now they are even giving you $50 and pay the shipping if you send them your stock cat. You could use this $50 towards anything that they have on their website(PLOG?) at least that is what I am told and this will be my next mod.

ok $200 for that is in my price range i will look into that

no you dont, you gain power which negates the "loss of low end torque". stop saying things that arent true.

im just repeating what other members on here have told me

well...they're wrong too...

It doesn't make sense to me either that someone would want to choke out their car...and so what it makes 2 ft. lbs. less with a 3" DP off the line or whatever they claim...you make up for it in the top end...OR...when you get more flow mods like Rockers/Cam/Ported TB/HV3...it is just common sense.

remember.......the motor is in effect a big air pump........the better it can flow in and out without restriction, the better off you will be. I would personally go with a 3" as well. It will help out a lot on top end........which is where you want to flow better when you get the HV3.....

hmm ok actually i got the 2.5" idea from the "safely modding your 3800" thread but since an HV3 is in the future a 3''dp is better? so for a 3"dp i would need an adapter that goes from 3" to 2.25'' at the resonator right? and would i need another adapter where the dp and exhaust manifolds meet? thanks for being patient with all my questions ha

yes, get the 3" downpipe. the only reason i would ever think a 2.5" downpipe would be a good idea is if someone is just looking for an easy way to open up the exhaust a little and delete the u-bend, but isnt looking to do much of anything more to the car.

you will only need a step down from the downpipe to the resonator, ZZP sells a nice one if you cant make one on your own.

I thought the one from zzp automatically downsized on the exit. IIRC it said to add more money($20) if you wanted it to exit at 3".........it says on the write up article on their website what it is.....

ya i found it $8 isnt bad ha but by lookin at the picture i cant tell how it mounts to the dp and reonator...im hoping for a 100% bolt on installation so i can do it myself but will consider having it welded if i need to
