exhaust question

hey guys tomorrow I am having my resonator removed and a normal pipe installed. does anyone have a sound clip of what it will sound like. i have a 98 grand prix gtp. i will still have my cat converter and factory mufflers. i keep finding video but they all have removed the cat or factory exhaust or both. can you help thanks.

I will ask him about the u-bend and see what he says. I am doing this too cause I do not have the money to do all the work at once. I plan to remove the cat and stock mufflers and having glass packs in place once i have more money. I am just picky I like the muffler tips so I want them back on once i do the change. I like it to look stock as i can

its the most restricted part of the exhaust
its where gm put the rear 02 sensor and they flated out the pipe to make it fit

So if I have them remove the u bend do I need to have the oz sensor re welded onto the pipe or can I just somehow attach it to my frame so it does not hang. I do not want to remove it and have my service light come on.

So I do need to have that sensor reattached to the pipe? Hmmm I hope my guy will not charge me more besides the price of the pipe

dont they sell pipe already like that,
i think so
just go buy one and have them weld it in, then screw the 02 back in

I have been searching for a pipe with the hole already in it and cant find one, I may just have him cut a hole and weld the sensor in.

GRRRRRR. SO we replaced the resonator with a straight pipe. The found out the gasket between the flang for the cat was leaking. We put silicon stuff on the gasket and it sealed it for about 20 minutes. then on the drive home it blew through the silicon so now the noise is back. But still much quieter and I love the sound that came out of the exhaust.

get a real gasket. that gasket is what, a 3 bolt 2.5" gasket? they'll sell that at your local parts store for $4.

it had 4 holes in it, and to be honest I love how the exhaust sounds with it off. It gives me EXACTLY the sound I wanted.

My gasket is so rusted out that I cant unbolt them. I would have to torch it off and I do not have the tools to do that. So until I have the money to have the cat and U bend cut out and replaced with a pipe It will be staying the way it is.

my flowmasters with stock res, sd headers with cat delete has a nice deep throaty tone to it. has a bit of drone while cruising but i dont mind it

I am planning to delete the u bend and cat as well. Right now I am just trying to fix the exhaust leak as I have a 13 hour drive in a week and another 13 hour drive 2 weeks after that and I do not wanna listen to loud exhaust for that long, plus I dont feel like cranking the volume on my radio for 13 hours to drown it out.

I think my temp fix will be to try and wrap the gasket opening with some exhaust tape and clamping the tape in.

Also have to fix a trailing arm. (f'in pot holes in Minneapolis) bent my pass side one
