exhaust leak

I see your point fivefinger, honestly I'm sick and tired of my car sounding and smelling like a "POS" when it's cold and I just don't have time to mess with it. I'm at the point of getting rid of it and finding another GT with less issues. I went to the dealer yesterday and found out that the rear exhaust manifold came in SS and the revision one is cast iron. I went under the car awhile ago to confirm and I can see NO cast iron manifold I see what looks like a factory welded SS manifold exhaust. Why the heck the fwd manifold is cast and the rear is what looks like SS is beyond me and they must be a reason why they quit using SS. The only thing available from the dealer is cast iron the SS manifold is obsolete. At the end of the day I don't really care I just want it quiet the way it should sound.

I also want to thank all you guys for your thoughts everyone here has valid thoughts, I'm just looking for the easiest cheapest solution.

I can't speak to the type of material, but definately not cast. Came off my 2000 GTP about 4 weeks ago when I did headers.

More to FFDP's point, I don't think headers are for everyone. A lot of people come hear just looking for inexpensive fixes from VERY knowledgeable people for their daily driven grocery getters.

all factory exhaust manifolds are made of cast. (cause its cheap to make) you cant really weld cast either, you can, but it never lasts long.

will ya look at that. strike my last post lol thats not cast.

jtackerman28; Where did you manifold crack, because on mine it is hard to find cause I only have two minutes by the time I hear it to find it. That sucker seals up until you go to drive it, once the car gets hot i will not get exhaust leak at any phase of driving. Was yours similar to this and where was your leak?

Mine was cracked at the welds couldn't see it until it was out and had the heat shield off though. It could have been welded back up but I had an extra, then finally was done with those pieces of **** and got pacesetters

I believe the stock exhaust manifold is known for cracking, while at salvage yard I found 3 that were cracked all in the same place, I found a good one finally now my car is quiet again

is it true that more so than not the bolts break off in the head? I've heard that somewhere and I have one that is broke off on the front manifold but it does not leak cold or hot. Generally how difficult is it to extract them?

ive not broken a single bolt on my engine or car to date. headers all went easy, not one bolt put up a fight for any of my repairs, and there a long list.

How good are you with a hand drill? If you can pilot drill with something small on center of the stud, then move up to a drill that's at or just under the thread root diameter, you should be able to just about pick the remaining threads out.
