exhaust ideas

Well i been searching the forums on here for exhaust ideas. Now is the resanator the cat? If not where is it located on exhaust. My 97 gtp stock exhaust does have some sound to it i was wondering if i just replaced the resanator with glasspack will it make my exhaust alot louder. I want a nice deep tone and a good rumble. And since chambered ones seem like they sound like crap could i just replace mufflers with glasspacks or will that not pass emissions? Thanks for the help

so i dont need to place resonator with glasspack. And im not replacing mufflers with glasspacks that would be over kill just want that deep loud rumble

As long as your resonator is in good condition it wont matter what you replace it with as long as its as long and as wide as possible.

5" res is preferable but it reduces ground clearance (i've scraped it at least once in the past month at stock ride height).

replace the mufflers with borla XS mufflers.

The resonator is behind the cat, many people have different opinions on what they think sounds good. I would look at videos on youtube of different exhaust clips to see what you think sounds good. I personally took everything out put in a 28" glasspack and straight pipe and called it good. This is what mine sounds like before I removed the cat and ubend. YouTube - Exhaust

That is in my opinion the best setup for sound, but you may not pass emission test :th_lipssealed1: I have the same setup, 26" glasspack, resonator delete and muffler delete...When I'm going to get my headers this summer the cat will be gone as well.

One thing, before hacking into your exhaust line, make sure you have the big picture in mind...I did like 3 setups before this one...your pocket won't like it if you need a welder everytime :th_winking:

First setup : completely stock : no sound whatsoever
Second setup : stock with resonator delete : a bit more sound but still...
Third setup : muffler delete, straight pipe with cat : fun for two days then massive headaches...

Current setup : almost perfect!

This motor doesnt sound good once you hit the gas.

It sounds akin to an inline four.

Hence the normal suggestion: Stock exhaust.

starting to find that out lol i had a chrysler lhs with 3.5 in it and had flowmaster dual exhaust and sounded real good. But i see now not to much i can do exhaust wise for a nice sporty sound

zzp headers to a 31 inch glasspack with 2 borla XS muffs and all 3 inch mendral bent with no cats...

sounds like a V8 at idle but unless im flooring it, it really doesn sound great while cruising around...

smells like a racecar though ;)

whatever you do, do NOT get rid of that res... if you do, put a glass pack in atleast or you will HATE it...
